The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.
PS4 Vs. PS3 Japan:
Gap change in latest month: 8,531 – PS4
Gap change over last 12 months: 386,211 – PS4
Total Lead: 102,123 – PS3
PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 2,739,081
PlayStation 3 Total Sales: 2,841,204
April 2016 is the 27th month of the PlayStation 4 being on sale in Japan. The gap decreased during the month when compared to the PlayStation 3’s 27th month on sale by 8,531 units in favor of the PlayStation 4 and by 386,211 units in favor of the PlayStation 4 in the last 12 months. The PlayStation 3 currently leads by 102,123 units.
The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. The PlayStation 4 has sold 2.74 million units in its first 27 months, while its predecessor the PlayStation 3 sold 2.84 million units.

Surely the PS4 will catch up once FF15 and P5 release.
This is Japan we're talking about. Ps neo is not gonna do well there, VR will be very niche. These are targeted at the west. The PS3 was really expensive and fat until the slim, the PS4 is already at a reasonable price. The PS3 price cut just brought the PS3 to the PS4's launch price.
Yeah but the point is the ps4 has a lot coming in that time frame. Yakuza 6, DQ 11 Persona 5. One things for sure it's going to open a big lead over the ps3 by the end of this year and they we see if it can survive the onslaught. both will hit 5m in similar timeframes and the ps4 will do just fine LTD
Nice comeback. By the time the big JRPGs come, the PS4 should be way ahead.

I think that the gap between Wii U and PS4 is of 400k isnt it ?, so PS4 is atleast above 3 Millions.
