Most Disappointing Game of 2015 - Article

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 09 January 2016 / 7,681 Views

2015, like any year, didn't pass without 'boasting' a number of high profile, often controversial disappointments. There were many more than four, but the four below are the ones we felt disappointed the most. It's important to note that we don't feel they're necessarily the worst games of the year - rather they're the titles that most failed to deliver on series expectations, oftentimes due to lack of technical polish, QA testing, or simply a lack of respect for customers.

The Nominees:

Call of Duty: Black Ops III (PS3 & 360 Versions)

Batman: Arkham Knight (PC Version)

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival

And the 'Winner' is...

Batman: Arkham Knight (PC Version)

 Arkham Knight 2

Community's Choice - Star Wars Battlefront (23% of the votes)

Expectations - that's the key for this award. We didn't really expect Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 or Amiibo Festival to be great games, and we certainly didn't expect Activision to pay much attention to the legacy versions of Call of Duty, even if it is the publisher's premiere series, although cutting the campaign out entirely certainly made it a strong contender this year.

But Batman: Arkham Knight really hit it out of the park. The Batman: Arkham series is a cherished IP that garners critical acclaim and fan reverence across all platforms, but the PC version of this particular title was an absolute mess of glitches, bugs, and missing features that it has done serious reputational damage to the brand. The port was so unexpectedly bad that the game had to be pulled from sale and that alone speaks volumes.

Hah, yeah, I figures it had to be that it wasn't dissapointing, because expectations were low to begin with xD

Why? No bugs and a new benchmark in graphics. Gameplay was limited but polished. Gunplay in particular was very satisfying. Interesting story, locations and characters. Most disappointing game of the year? I don't think so.

It almost became community choice, it was 1 vote behind the community choice winner

I enjoyed The Order. The mess that was the PC ver of AK is much more deserving of this award.

Even though they're not to blame, what a shame for Rocksteady, they developed an amazing game, and the PC version was tarnished by an outside studio producing a shoddy port.

The outside team, Iron Galaxy, has great reputation. The problem was th WB, they didn't give them enough time or resources. They told WB about the issues with the port and they released it anyway.

Well people, let's bee honest, there wasn't any kind of good expectation from Amiibo Festival :v
still I laugh sooooooo much at Battlefront beeing Community's Choice :'''''D

In terms of expectation vs delivery, I'd say Halo 5. No one cares about not-Master-Chief. They want to play as Master Chief.

Xenoblade Chronicles X for me. I had a terrible feeling it was going to be bad when the developers came out and said it's going to focus more on combat and exploring than story compared to Xenoblade Chronicles. Sure enough... sigh.

Can I say Spore again? I'm still not over that.

Batmobile: Arkham Knight was my biggest disappointment. The main quest and story just didn't interest me like Asylum, City, and even Origins. I really hated how you had to get 100% completion in order to see the true ending. The side quests were mostly boring and repetitive (eg. disable the mine in the road or take out the bad guys at the checkpoint, and then repeat both of these things about 30 more times). There were ZERO memorable boss battles. And I couldn't even go 5 minutes without the Batmobile being shoved down my throat.

it's horrible though. I mean, DC really cares for its games(unlike Marvel). Arkham Knight will really be hard to ignore for the next game they are gonna make.
