And then it'll only get smaller and smaller until PS4 takes the lead spot and stays there.

Wii was a monster. PS4 is still beast too.

And people wonder why Ninty wants to pull another Wii! I would too if i realized going head to head with Sony/Micro would only make things much more difficult and costly.

Vgchartz doesn't have the wii at 30.2 million until the first week of August in 2008, So the gap total is too high, though the gap change for the month is low

It's a hardcore console, of course it would sell well at the start. Unless it can tap the casual market, the gap will continue. The hardcore only makes up so much of the market, and most of those are playing their games on a PC.

Wii was just 249 euros. In consumer value PS4 is still ahead.

Good point. The Wii pulled over 7.5 billion dollars in revenue, but the PS4 has pulled over 9 billion.

I wonder why people like to pull out revenue even though it means nothing?

The PS4 is probably still being sold at a loss, considering Sony's profits haven't been impressive at all.

That's what fan boys pull out when their system is getting it's ass kicked by the wii.

It IS impressive when you consider the fact that gaming is pretty much carrying Sony right now.

This is about how many units each sold, not about money.

not only that but profits aren't even in the same ballpark.

In the US, the Wii has sold 667k in June 2008, PS4 366k.>300k gap... In Japan, the Wii sold 224k VS 69k PS4. >150K gap... Total gap US+JP > 450k. "Gap change in latest month: 322,452 – Wii" ...PS4 outsold Wii by 125k in Europe and Rest of world????? suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure.

FinalFantasyer Ryng (on 21 August 2015)

Europe never paid much attention to any Nintendo consoles while Sony is king over there. Seems perfectly natural to me.

Bofferbrauer Ryng (on 21 August 2015)

Oh, the Wii was also beasting in europe back then. PS3, not so much in that timeframe yet, that one really started to pick up in 2009 in europe

Could China have something to do with the "slow" gap increase?

Ryng Ryng (on 21 August 2015)

Lol, when the Wii is massacre PS4 by 3:1 in Japan and 2:1 in the US ???
That's just ridiculus, even if we talk about "Sony land", and even if for some miracle the PS4 sell more than the Wii in Europe, by how much? 100K!? seem legit...

Wonktonodi Ryng (on 21 August 2015)

well done, you picked two regions where the gap is really big and decided that all other places should be similar. The ps4 has a bigger market share in Europe than the wii had as well as many other countries. your attitude and sarcasm won't change that. In fact there is a chance that the ps4 had an even bigger lead outside of Japan and the US. Considering this has 1.2 million ps4s on shelves when you subtract it from the total they have shipped might be too high

Ryng Ryng (on 22 August 2015)

Guys, seriusly, there is some of wrong in this article. I see the VGChartz estimate for the Wii in June 2008, and all week of June the Wii was above 100k... according to VGChartz PS4 in Europe sold 370k in TOTAL. i mean... how is the gap only 320k GLOBALLY this month!?

  • +1
Wonktonodi Ryng (on 22 August 2015)

Indeed ryng, there are many things wrong with the data, though your initial wording didn't make it clear. Had you simply said vgchartz days for June 2008 had a bigger gap with the ps4 June this year you wouldn't leave it to speculation. Though it also means the total gap is actually smaller since the wii won't have an extra month of sales. (The wii wasn't at 30.2 million until the first week that ended in August in 2008)
