Welcome to the VGChartz Gap charts. The charts will be updated monthly and each article will focus on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation, as well as comparing the 8th generation consoles. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

Wii U Vs. Wii Global:

Gap change in latest month: 643,793 - Wii

Gap change over last 12 months: 18,680,556 - Wii

Total Lead: 39,865,012 – Wii

Wii U Total Sales: 9,646,187

Wii Total Sales: 49,511,199

April 2015 is the 30th month of the Wii U being on sale. The gap increased during the month when compared to the Wii’s 30th month on sale by 643,793 units in favor of the Wii. The Wii currently leads by 39.87 million units.

Both consoles launched in November. The Wii launched in November 2006, while the Wii U launched in November 2012. The Wii U has sold 9.65 million units in its first 30 months, while its predecessor the Wii sold 49.51 million units.

Whether Wii-U was meant for casuals or not, it didn't work out that way. Wii was for Grandma (even the queen of England had one for crying out loud) and Wii-U is for hardcore Nintendo gamers.
