E3 2011 Hands-On: Kirby Wii - Preview

After last year's epic reveal of Kirby's Epic Yarn the next iteration of the pink puff ball goes back to the serie's roots. So their will be no strings, patchwork art or vehicle transformations. Instead we get Kirby as he was meant to be, sucking up everything in sight and spitting it back at whatever's left. From my hands-on time with the title I can tell you, this is the Kirby you grew up playing. Everything from the controls, to the gameplay are pretty much the same as any of the traditional games in the series.

Ok, well the game does feautre some new features that I suppose you migh twant to know about. Like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the game will feature four player, simultaneous co-op, where one player takes control of Kirby while the others play as Meta Knight, a Waddle Dee and King Dedede himself. Now playing as Kirby has several advantages, Kirby is the only one who can copy abilities from enemies and also the only character who can perform the new devestating super moves which can be used to both clear paths or destroy large groupes of enemies. Also the game features the ability to for players to drop in and out as they please, allowing Kirby Wii to easily become a party game even if you started playing alone.

From my brief hands-on with Kirby Wii (the demo is one level, at the end of which you fight Wispy Woods) it's easy to see that it will have no problem brigning all the classic Kirby charm and fun to the Wii. My only concern is that, since the game is releasing after the very different Kirby's Epic Yarn that people will overlook this game as more of the same when in reality Kirby Wii is shaping up to be every bit as fun and enjoyable as the last Kirby adventure.

Stay tuned to gamrReview for more hands-on previews of all the new games from E3 2011.
