Halo: The Master Chief Collection brings together all four numbered games in the Halo series to the Xbox One this fall. Of these four games, Halo 2 will be presented in HD for the first time with completely remastered visuals to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Halo 2 was the definitive multiplayer shooter experience for Xbox Live at the time of its release. Microsoft allowed gamers to relive some of the game's epic multiplayer stand-offs at their booth at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. I was able to play 8-person rounds of Team Slayer and Free-for-All.

The map we were able to play on was Zenith - one of the smaller ones but perfect for a match of this size. We were divided into the familiar red team vs. blue team factions and went about trying to decimate the other team. And decimate we did, by a margin of 50-8. Halo 2 now feels slowly placed compared to modern multiplayer shooters, giving it a very retro vibe despite the graphical overhaul. I was content dual-wielding my sub-machine guns and finishing off an enemy with a melee kill if they got too close.

Halo 2 Anniversary absolutely sparkles with its HD upgrade. Everything is so crisp, clean, and clear on the screen. The colors are full and fierce. The lack of music playing in the background also made things seem eerily quiet and tame. However, Halo 2’s epic score will of course be available in the campaign in the full release.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be one of the best video game deals when it releases this fall for the Xbox One. You get four of the best shooters of all time in one great package and on top of that Halo 2 receives a proper HD upgrade for the first time. Buying the collection also ensures access to the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta.

Get ready to hail to the Chief on November 11, 2014.
