Welcome to the ‘Top 10’ weekly feature. Each week we will be taking a look at the top 10 selling games in a particular genre, platform, most recent month, even sprinkling in the top 10 selling games from a past year. All sales specified will be worldwide, unless stated otherwise. If there is a particular top 10 you want to see leave a comment and it may be featured in a future top 10.
Over the first two month of 2013 we will be looking at the 2012 sales by platform. This week we will be taking a look at the PlayStation 3. Last week we looked at the top 10 selling PS games in 2012 and the week before that the top 10 selling DS games in 2012.
Looking at the top 10 bestselling PlayStation 3 games in 2012, five of the titles were released during the year. Also one game was released in 2010 and four in 2011.
The five games released in 2012 sold a combined 23.00 million units or 71.6 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The one game released in 2010 sold 1.56 million units or 4.9 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The four games released in 2011 sold 7.56 million units or 23.5 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.
The top 10 bestselling PlayStation 3 games sold a combined 32.12 million games in 2012. Two games sold five million or more units and six sold two million or more units. All 10 games sold one million or more units.
Two games are first party and eight games are third party. The third party publishers include three Electronic Arts titles, two by Activision, one by Ubisoft, one by Capcom, and one by Square Enix. The two first party titles, published by Sony, sold a combined 3.69 million units or 11.5 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The three Electronic Arts titles sold a combined 9.17 million units or 28.5 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The two Activision titles sold a combined 11.09 million units or 34.5 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.
Taking a look at the top 10 bestselling PlayStation 3 games in 2012, it is easy to see how three titles sold above the rest of the top 10. The three titles sold combined more than the other seven titles combined.
Here are the rest of the PlayStation sales in 2012 outside the top 10: Sony sold 11.28 million PlayStation 3’s in 2012. This is a drop of 20.1 percent when compared to 2011. There were also 127.3 million games sold for the PlayStation 3 in 2012. This is a 13.1 percent drop year-over-year.
22 titles sold one million or more units and 56 titles sold 500,000 or more units. 150 titles sold 200,000 or more units and 220 titles sold 100,000 or more units.
15.59 million games sold for the PlayStation 3 in 2012 were first party, published by Sony. Electronic Arts sold 23.66 million games for the PlayStation 3 in 2012, Activision 17.02 million games, Ubisoft 11.13 million games, and Take-Two 9.43 million games.

Wow none of the PS3 games hold a candle to the Xbox top 10.hell black ops on the Xbox and halo 4 pretty much outsells the top 10 of the PS3 combined.If you throw in the other 8 Xbox games of 2012 then game over.Wow i can see why Xbox posted $1.8 billion profit for the 4th quarter of 2012 and sony had a $115 million loss.

Which gen did fifa start in? I have a copy of Fifa95 on the megadrive which suggests it aint a new IP :D or a copy of Final Fantasy 2 on the NES, Madden, Call of duty, Resi evil, Gran Turismo?
From the list of 10 games only 3 of them are IPs started this Generation.
