Sony - - Article

by Pat Fass , posted on 16 March 2007 / 1,601 ViewsMarch 16 - While the latest NPD reports tell of a rather sobering reality, Sony remains unwavering on their forecast of shipping 6 million PS3's before the end of March.

NPD has recently reported a sell through of 127k consoles through the end of February. This number, in addition to their previous counts of 243k (January) and 687k (through the end of 2006), put the PS3 at just over 1 million sold in the US at the beginning of March. Coupled with MediaCreate figures since launch (obtained through the-magicbox.com) totalling 262k so far in 2007 and 437k for 2006, put the total install base for US and Japan combined at roughly 1.7million.

While Sony has plans to launch the PS3 in Europe (and Australia) on March 23rd with a million units available, this should leave a pretty sizable amount of consoles floating through retail. Will Sony continue to push for this number? Or, will there be an adjustment made to their final shipping numbers?

...stay tuned - the ride has just started.
