Game Overview

Devil May Cry was originally released in 2001. The game began production as Resident Evil 4 but after some time, the developers realized that the game bore little resemblance to a Resident Evil game. Instead, development was shifted to "Team Little Devils" and the game became the Hack n' Slash game Devil May Cry. Since then, the game and the franchise it started have become regarded by many as the example by which other games in the genre are compared.

Since its release in 2001 for the PlayStation 2, the original game has gone on to sell 3 million units, had an HD remake released in 2012 (750,000 units) and been rebooted into DmC: Devil May Cry in January 2013.

I also started with DMC3,
and I feel your comment is unfair. You
have to take into account that DMC1 was
the first game of the series, and what
they were able to do back then.
Of-course DMC3 has better combat. But
still the first game set the standard

DMC1 has a much more
special atmosphere than DMC3. And is far
more innovative.

This was my first pick when I purchased
my PS2 (over FFX)

This game is not as great if you played
DMC 3 first like I did/ Combat is slow
and game is ugly to look at not just
graphics but style it didnt age well.
Collecting orbs to open doors is also
stupid.

Still my favorite in the series, and one
of my favorite action games.
