Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii slightly undertracked in UK?

According to figures from Chart-track, the wii will hit 1 million sold within the next 3-4 weeks. That does seem strange in comparence to our figures since we have the wii now at 852.000 with weekly sales of 23.000~.
Now it doesn't take rocket science to see that 5(including this week and assuming chart track has also counted this week in) times the 23.000 doesn't add up to 1 million, actually it still needs about 33.000 then. So either one of us is wrong, up to you who is =)

On a sidenote, Wii will already overtake GC's lifetime sales in UK by the end of september!

The Nintendo Wii is on course to hit one million sales in the UK within three to four weeks, according to official sell-through figures from Chart-Track.

Currently the console is outselling the 360 in the UK by over four to one, and the PS3 by more than six to one each week. If it keeps it up, it should pass the GameCube's lifetime UK sales figure of just over a million by the end of September.

Naturally, then, its next milestone will be to overhaul Microsoft's lead in the UK - which, if the current trend continues, could be before the end of October. Although with Halo 3 due out at the end of September and rumours of a possible price-cut to coincide with it, Nintendo will have its work cut out to claim the number one spot that early. Similar success stories are evident all around the world, with Nintendo swiftly closing on Microsoft to become the console manufacturer with the biggest worldwide installed base. The Japanese giant is clearly on something of a roll, with DS installed base figures in the UK now around the 4 million mark.

Edit : I got the number of the beast!

Wow, it is 'Others' day today.... good numbers, I can't believe Nintendo is selling so well in the UK alone... wow!

Nice post!

Don´t take these numbers for granted, though. It is possible they talk about shipment numbers. The average person doesn´t know the difference between shipped and sold to consumers.

im not counting on that actually, it would likely be 50-100k more if they were talking about shipment numbers

Also means 360 is outselling PS3 by 1.5 to 1 in UK.

ioi's latest UK weekly (Aug 5) has PS3 ~8k and 360 ~5.5k..

So umm, it's just like I said, Vgchartz is vastly over-representing PS3 in Europe.. I doubt on the whole PS3 is selling any more in Europe than 360 is. That's been implied from the quarterly Sony/MS financial figures released like a month ago....

@ Sharky, but .... but... vg chartz is artificially lowering ps3 numbers

They are not shipment numbers, the article clearly states it:

"according to official sell-through figures from Chart-Track."

Edit: about the part where Wii is on track to pass XBox 360 before the end of october makes me wonder if the 1.24M that VGchartz has it on might be a bit high. The article talks about Wii passing the 1M mark at 3 to 4 weeks, so somewhere at the beginning of september. Then there are only 6-7 weeks left for Wii to pass up on XBox 360 before the end of october. Now if Wii decreases its deficit by 20k units a week (which is already more than VGchartz gives it at the moment) it can only catch up with 120-140k units in that time period. So for XBox 360 to be passable by Wii within the timeframe mentioned in the article XBox 360 can't be ahead of Wii by the beginning of september with more than around 150k units. That would put XBox 360 on around 1.15M units sold at the beginning of september and probably around 1.1M units sold up to the last update on the site (5 august)

Lol but woww, Wii's already almost beaten the GC's LTD sales in UK after less then a year. Wowww...

I've been saying they've been overrepresenting PS3 EU sales since the price drop...

These numbers that have PS3 vastly outselling 360 worldwide 2-1 are a fantasy when we have hard numbers for Japan and North America and when you add those two up, 360 usually wins easily (probably not in July though).

And also both companies reported 700k last quarter..regardless of different methods.. only Xbox was severely overstocked in previous quarters..

Sony reported 710,000 sold last Q, 50,000 a month was average in Japan and 80,000 in America..they did 230,000 a month so that leaves 100,000 a month for EU. Actually less when you figure, one moth they did 100k in America, Canada sales, Slightly over 50k a month in Japan, etc...
