Forums - Gaming Discussion - Red Faction Guerilla. THE TRUTH.

I didnt even need to go looking for this, came across articles looking for Red faction screenies. But the PS3 version of Red Faction has had way more trouble running on the PS3 than the 360. Funny how people on this site leave this info out.

"One little change and you're out of memory. When it comes to PlayStation3, there's less memory to work with. We actually ended up hiring some from Sony to help us make our PS3 version. Fortunately, they are the same. We've been able to make sure that PC, 360 and PS3 versions are the same."

Look at these following comments by Sean Kennedy lead producer on Red Faction.

Attention all PlayStation 3 owner who are planning to get their hands on the PlayStation 3 version of the game Red Faction: Guerrilla. The games Associate Producer Sean Kennedy has just admitted to CVG that the extra help was needed to bring the PlayStation3 version up to speed with the Xbox 360 version. Kennedy even stressed how hard Red Faction: Guerilla is pushing the current-gen technology and then says that the lack of memory on PlayStation3 causes a additional headache.

“I mean, to be honest, we are pushing the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 to the limits,” he says. “I mean, not only has it been a balancing act making destruction work with the gameplay and making it all come together in a cohesive way that’s fun, but it’s been a balancing act getting the game to run on the systems.”

So there you have it. Again people on this site choose to find and nitpick partial events. When in reality the most probable reason they are looking at 720 is because the PS3 couldnt do anymore. They had a harder time with the PS3 because the memory is a worse situation.

Next time how about we keep VGC non fanboyish shall we?

It wasnt hard. Just type in PS3 and Red Faction in Google and there are countless articles telling of the lack of memory in PS3 compared to 360. And the struggles of PS3 development. Basically the articles state that both systems are maxed out with this game. The interesting thing will be what game wins the multiplatform test on websites LOL.

Stop it seriously.

These guys need to get over themselves either way.

Yes, we know the PS3 has less memory. We've known this for a long time.

Now, Bad Company and Killzone 2 have destruction on the PS3, right? Did they have any problems?

Stop what? That is probably the reality. There is another thread over in the M$ section with countless Fanboys of PS3 bashing the 360. I have made it abundantly clear with the help of actual evidence (of which is in abundance) that the PS3 version has caused more problems and mainly due to lack of memory compared to PS3. That is the devs words.

So if you want to have a gto at someone, how about the person which did not research correctly and post a 360 hating thread in the M$ forum. Jeez will we ever get the whole truth on VGC?

NO IT DOESN'T...FFS

"

Just so you know that the PS3 has 512MB of RAM (256 for video and 256 for system). The Cell chip has 256MB of completely sharable RAM, the GPU has 256MB of dedicated RAM. Now the key here is what type of RAM it is.

The Playstation 3 has 256mb of GDDR3 at 700mhz  and 256Mb of XDR at 3.2ghz. So what exactly is XDR ram? Here are some of the highlights:

  • XDR makes PS3 super effiecient
  • XDR aids in faster cache mapping, both direct and indirect
  • XDR ram works by a pointer to pointer technology and needs very small buswidth for execution
  • XDR is not just faster than GDDR3 but it is much more efficient
  • XDR RAM works by breaking down data into several packets which prevents data loss and exceptions"

http://talkplaystation.com/ps3s-ram-and-rsx-explained/

"...this update also drastically reduces the overall memory cost of the PS3's operating system. System memory usage was only dropped to 48MB from 52MB but the video memory usage dropped from 32MB to 24MB. The cost of other features like the Friends List also has been reduced across almost the entire board, making them enticing developers."

here we go again.

So what you're saying is that the people who make Red Faction are basically useless.

That's a possibility, right? If Guerilla can do it, why can't Volition?

And I said the PS3 has less RAM, not worse RAM.
