Americas Preorders Chart, 1 October 2011 - Rage & Dark Souls - News

Overview

There are two games in the top 20 to be in its final week before launch, Rage (X360) and Dark Souls (PS3). The top five games include Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (X360), Battlefield 3 (X360), The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (X360), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PS3), and Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC). The top five games have 500,000 or more pre-orders, up from three last week, and the top 15 has 200,000 or more pre-orders, up from 14 last week. Five games add 50,000 or more pre-orders, the same as last week and 13 add 20,000 or more, the same as last week.

Games in final week before launch

Rage (X360) reached number 14 in its final week before launch. The game added 30,000 pre-orders for a grand total of 205,000. Expect first week sales in the Americas to be in the 275,000 to 350,000 unit range. The PlayStation 3 version is outside the top 20 as its adds 10,000 pre-orders for a final total of 110,000. Expect first week sales in the Americas to be in the 125,000 to 175,000 unit range.

Dark Souls (PS3) adds 24,000 pre-orders in its final week. It reached a total of 156,000. Expect first week sales in the Americas to be in the 200,000 to 250,000 unit range. The Xbox 360 version is outside the top 20 as it adds 13,000 pre-orders for a total of 79,000. Expect first week sales in the Americas to be in the 100,000 to 125,000 unit range.

Other Hot Games

Battlefield 3 (X360) is at number two as it adds 82,000 pre-orders, up from 71,000 last week, for a total of 826,000. The PlayStation 3 version is down one spot to number 10 as it adds 32,000 pre-orders, up from 21,000 last week, for a total of 335,000. The game is four weeks away from launch, October 25 in the Americas and October 28 in EMEAA.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 vs Call of Duty: Black Ops Pre-orders

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (X360) is at the top as it adds 126,000 pre-orders, up from 120,000 pre-orders the previous week. The game currently has 1.42 million pre-orders and is six weeks away from launch, November 8 in both the Americas and EMEAA. The game is currently three weeks ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops (X360) the game with the biggest opening in gaming history for any single platform.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 vs Call of Duty: Black Ops Pre-orders

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PS3) is up one spot to number four as it adds 47,000 pre-orders up from 36,000 last week. The game is currently at 533,000 pre-orders and will launch in six weeks, November 8 in both the Americas and EMEAA. It is currently just 8,000 pre-orders ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops (PS3), the game with the biggest opening for the PlayStation 3.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Pre-orders

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii) is at number seven, as it adds 21,000 pre-orders, down from 30,000 last week, for a total of 368,000. The game is eight weeks away from launch, November 18 in EMEAA and November 20 in the Americas.

Also in the top 10: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (X360) is at number three as it adds 46,000 pre-orders, down from 51,000 last week, for a total of 580,000. The game is six weeks away from launch, November 11 in both the Americas and EMEAA.

Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC) is down one spot to number five as it adds 43,000 pre-orders, up from 27,000 last week, for a total of 533,000. The game is 12 weeks away from launch, December 20 in the Americas and December 22 in EMEAA.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (X360) is at number six, as it adds 18,000 pre-orders, down from 16,000 last week, for a total of 369,000. The game is seven weeks away from launch, November 15 in the Americas and EMEAA.

Batman: Arkham City (X360) is at number eight as it adds 53,000 pre-orders, down from 57,000 last week, for a total of 365,000. The game is three weeks away from launch, October 18 in the Americas and October 21 in EMEAA.

Batman: Arkham City (PS3) is up one spot to number nine as it adds 52,000 pre-orders, down from 54,000 last week, for a total of 347,000. The game is three weeks away from launch, October 18 in the Americas and October 21 in EMEAA.

Notable mentions outside the top 10: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (X360) adds 54,000 pre-orders for a total of 313,000. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (PS3) adds 18,000 pre-orders for a total of 266,000. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PS3) adds 23,000 pre-orders for a total of 203,000.

Requests from last week’s article for games that are not in the top 20: Mass Effect 3 (PS3) adds 3,000 pre-orders for a total of 54,000 and the PC version adds 2,000 pre-orders for a total of 18,000. Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PS3) adds 3,000 pre-orders for a total of 45,000. Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny (PS3) adds 3,000 pre-orders for a total of 19,000.

360 doesn't have as many good exclusives, so, owners of that system will definitely get games like MW3 due to there lack of options. PS3 owners have lots of exclusives to choose from, and don't necessarily need to get every COD game that comes out. It's a good thing and it's a good time to be a PS3 gamer.

It's a slightly different genre in that it's not a pure blooded shooter. Sony was hoping that it would appeal to a different market?

MS is sillier, Halo: CEA is coming out a week after CoD, but it's likely because they wanted to release the game exactly 10 years after the original.

I'm so glad RAGE [X360]broke 200k, over 300k combined not counting PC. Very happy for Dark Souls, too. The X360 multiplayer will be a smaller but very vicious community. Oh, how fun!

I agree, especially when UC2 sold more then a million more units then Batman AA(PS3) in Americas and the new Batman is smoking UC3 in pre-orders. (PS3)

Maybe the data is wrong, it is really strange. Pre-orders in the rest of the world must be ahead. I think we will see a nice boost over next few weeks because of Subway promotion.

The article says 110k pre-orders on PS3. It's coming out on PC too. No PC pre-order numbers it seems, but I expect lots people to have pre-ordered on Steam.
