Overview
There is one game in the top 20 to be in its final week before launch, Gears of War 3 (X360). The top five games include Gears of War 3 (X360), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (X360), Battlefield 3 (X360), The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (X360) and Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC). The top three games have 500,000 or more pre-orders, the same as last week, and the top 14 has 200,000 or more pre-orders, the same as last week. Six games add 50,000 or more pre-orders, up from four last week and 12 add 20,000 or more, the same as last week.
Games in final week before launch
Gears of War 3 (X360) is the lone game to be in its final week before launch. The game is at the top as it adds 203,000 pre-orders, up from 173,000 last week, for a grand total of 1.96 million. This is just shy of Halo Reach which had two million pre-orders. Halo: Reach opened with 3.06 million in the Americas, which is a 50 percent increase over its total pre-orders. Expect Gears of War 3 to have a slightly smaller opening in the Americas, since the franchise is not as popular as Halo, with sales in the 2.4 million to 2.9 million unit range.
Other Hot Games
Battlefield 3 (X360) is at number three as it adds 62,000 pre-orders, the same as last week, for a total of 672,000. The PlayStation 3 version is at number nine as it adds 18,000 pre-orders, down from 20,000 last week, for a total of 2264,000. The game is six weeks away from launch, October 25 in America and October 28 in EMEAA.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (X360) is the second most pre-ordered game as it adds 106,000 pre-orders, down from 111,000 pre-orders the previous week. The game currently has 1.18 million pre-orders and is eight weeks away from launch, November 8 in both America and EMEAA. The game is currently four weeks ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops (X360) the game with the biggest opening in gaming history for any single platform.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PS3) is at number six as it adds 55,000 pre-orders up from 31,000 last week. The game is currently at 450,000 pre-orders and will launch in eight weeks, November 8 in both America and EMEAA. It is currently less than one week ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops (PS3), the game with the biggest opening for the PlayStation 3 and it may fall behind Black Ops in two weeks.
Also in the top 10: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (X360) is up one spot to number four as it adds 51,000 pre-orders, up from 32,000 last week, for a total of 484,000. The game is eight weeks away from launch, November 11 in both the Americas and EMEAA.
Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC) is down one spot to number five as it adds 19,000 pre-orders, down from 30,000 last week, for a total of 463,000. The game is 10 weeks away from launch, November 22 in the Americas.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (X360) is at number seven, as it adds 20,000 pre-orders, up from 15,000 last week, for a total of 335,000. The game is 9 weeks away from launch, November 15 in the Americas and EMEAA.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii) is at number eight, as it adds 52,000 pre-orders, down from 72,000 last week, for a total of 317,000. The game is 10 weeks away from launch, November 18 in EMEAA and November 20 in the Americas.
Batman: Arkham City (X360) is at number 10 as it adds 25,000 pre-orders, up from 22,000 last week, for a total of 255,000. The game is five weeks away from launch, October 18 in the Americas and October 21 in EMEAA.
Notable mentions outside the top 10: Batman: Arkham City (PS3) adds 28,000 pre-orders for a total of 240,000. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (X360) adds 21,000 pre-orders for a total of 222,000. FIFA Soccer 12 (PS3) adds 24,000 pre-orders for a total of 199,000.
Requests from last week’s article for games that are not in the top 20: Dark Souls (PS3) adds 10,000 pre-orders for a total of 118,000. The Xbox 360 version adds 7,000 pre-orders for a total of 57,000. Saints Row: The Third (X360) adds 9,000 pre-orders for a total of 103,000. The PlayStation 3 version adds 5,000 pre-orders for a total of 52,000. Atelier Totori: The Adventure of Arland (PS3) adds 5,000 pre-orders for a total of 11,000.
