Americas Preorders Chart, 27 August 2011 - Madden NFL 12 - News

Overview

There is one game in the top 20 to be in its final week before launch, Madden NFL 12 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The top five games include Gears of War 3 (X360), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (X360), Madden NFL 12 (X360), Battlefield 3 (X360), and Madden NFL 12 (PS3). The top four games have 500,000 or more pre-orders, up from two last week, and the top 12 has 200,000 or more pre-orders, up from 10 last week. Three games add 50,000 or more pre-orders, up from two last week and 11 add 20,000 or more, up from nine last week.

Games in Final Week Before Launch

Madden NFL 12 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is the lone game this week to be in its final week before launch. The Xbox 360 reached number three on the charts as it added 97,000 pre-orders this week for a grand total of 524,000. Last year’s version had 321,000 pre-orders and sold 677,000 units first week. Expect first week sales in America to be in the 650,000 to 750,000 unit range.

The PlayStation 3 version added 64,000 pre-orders in its final week, for a final total of 418,000. Last year’s version had 366,000 pre-orders and sold 556,000 units first week. Expect first week sales in America to be in the 500,000 to 650,000 unit range.

Other Hot Games

Gears of War 3 (X360) at the top adds 52,000 pre-orders up from 48,000 the previous week. The game currently sits at 1.47 million pre-orders. The game is four weeks away from launch, on September 20 in America and EMEAA and September 22 in Japan. Gears of War 3 is now only one week ahead of Halo: Reach (X360), however Halo: Reach added 184,000 pre-orders four weeks before launch, more than 100,000 than Gears of War 3 . If pre-orders don’t pick up it will fall behind Reach next week.

Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3 (X360) down one spot to number four as it adds 47,000 pre-orders, up from 42,000 last week, for a total of 520,000. The PlayStation 3 version is at number 10 as it adds 16,000 pre-orders, up from 12,000 last week, for a total of 230,000. The game is nine weeks away from launch, October 25 in America and October 28 in EMEAA.

Modern Warfare 3 vs Black Ops

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (X360) is the second most pre-ordered game as it adds 47,000 pre-orders, down from 58,000 pre-orders the previous week. The game currently has 886,000 pre-orders and is 11 weeks away from launch, November 8 in both America and EMEAA. The game is currently four weeks ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops (X360) the game with the biggest opening in gaming history for any single platform.

Modern Warfare 3 vs Black Ops

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PS3) is at number eight as it adds 12,000 pre-orders the same as last week. The game is currently at 343,000 pre-orders and will launch in 11 weeks, November 8 in both America and EMEAA. It is currently less than two weeks ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops (PS3), the game with the biggest opening for the PlayStation 3; however it was as much as seven weeks ahead at one point. If pre-orders don’t pick up, it will fall behind Black Ops in two weeks.

Also in the top 10: Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC) is up one spot to number six as it adds 38,000 pre-orders, down from 42,000 last week, for a total of 384,000. The game currently has no release date in America.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (X360) is down one spot to number seven as it adds 23,000 pre-orders, down from 27,000 last week, for a total of 376,000. The game is 11 weeks away from launch, November 11 in both America and EMEAA.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (X360) is at number nine, as it adds 8,000 pre-orders, the same as last week, for a total of 285,000. The game is 12 weeks away from launch, November 15 in America and EMEAA.

Notable mentions outside the top 10: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception adds 10,000 pre-orders for a total of 190,000. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (X360) adds 18,000 pre-orders for a total of 167,000. FIFA Soccer 12 (PS3) adds 11,000 pre-orders for a total of 133,000.

Requests from last week’s article for games that are not in the top 20: Forza Motorsport 4 (X360) adds 7,000 pre-orders for a total of 106,000. Resistance 3 adds 9,000 pre-orders for a total of 89,000. Halo 4 adds 4,000 pre-orders for a total of 49,000.

Only giving top 20 pre-orders is ultra-Scrooge territory. Least you could do is top 30. Looks possible that on PS3 Black Ops might be the peak for the CoD franchise. Interesting that it could be the 2nd best CoD studio which has the best selling CoD game. MW3 on 360 doesn't look like it's likely to expand the franchise as much as MW2 and Black Ops did. Though I suppose in % expansion CoD4 MW was the biggest.

Uncharted 3 looks like it's on course for the best launch of the franchise.

I know, I have been playing R3 Multiplayer, and I must say it is actually awesome, I am having so much fun with different options, and as you rank up it gets even better. Insomniac needs to keep working on bugs and such, but so far game look AWESOME. I am actually going to pick it up.

Wow Uncharted 3 is doing incredible. It's already got more pre-orders with 10 weeks to go than Uncharted 2 had at launch! And Uncharted 2 didn't even make the top 20 until 6 weeks before it's launch and it entered with only 40k then.
