a game is hardcore when you play it in the hardcore way... the only thing important in playing is if you gen fun playing it

wow i wonder if it'll have any hardcore titles available with it

@ttweed

yap, NOW they are sold-out, they will get another stock on nov 17th.

@Spedfrom

If that is REALLY what you got from my comment ... wow. I just really don't know what to say. Wow.

  • 0

@aznable it looks like Amazon.com will have a new stock of the 4GB model on the 17th.

  • 0
ttweed (on 13 November 2010)

Looks like Microsoft could have trouble meeting demand as it appears as though the 4GB models are now getting low on stock.

A friend of mine went to buy one after using my Kinect for his kid, but at numerous stores could only find a 250 GB model w/Kinect which they ended up getting as the 4GB models w/Kinect and of course Kinect by itself were all gone.

Not sure if that is good or bad news for Microsoft.

kinect alone, kinect 4gb bundle e kinect 250gb bundle are sold-out at amazon.com

Where are the sales numbers? All I see is a bunch of made up VG Chartz numbers.

  • 0
static360 (on 13 November 2010)

I must say i played some of these games with a friend that got it for his birthday, the score might have been bad but the games are fun.

  • 0
damndl0ser (on 13 November 2010)

@Bluyoshi

Have you even played any of the Kinect games? They might not have had the greatest review scores, but I can promise you one thing, most of the games are fun and family oriented. I can point to countless dozens of wii games that are geared toward families and have very bad reviews, guess what a lot of them are fun too. They are just simply geared toward other people than us hard core gamers and this is ok. I am fairly certain word of mouth will be favorable and not because the games are "dirt"....

  • 0
Bluyoshi (on 13 November 2010)

Hmm...very interesting figures and even more interesting comments.

On the article, I am slightly shocked that Kinect sold that much, but a lot of those could be from people who M$ can, essientially, point to a pile of dirt and tell them to buy it for $50 and they will. Sadly, people like this do exist, and as has been said, when you spend such a high amount on marketing, if you don't sell at least 500k then something is very very wrong with you.

(Disclaimer: The previous analargy is in no way referring to Kinect as a pile of dirt.)

Considering that Kinect, and software for Kinect, is getting pretty nasty reviews from many sources now that they have been allowed to release said reviews, I can't see any longevity in it. But then to be honest, I could be wrong. I do know that I personally would rather choose the Wii for motion gaming than a PS3 or 360.

Two things on the comments: Firstly, Greenburg will most likely be referring to shipped figures and not sold. To be honest, from his tweet he seems a bit too immature to know the difference so I wouldn't be shocked if that's what he will hide behind when it comes to apoligising for being pathetic.

Secondly, to whoever said that "hardcore" gamers are the people who made CoD sell, get over the Hardcore=/FPS thing, it's getting annoying. Very, annoying.

Something tells me there is going to be an adjustment... UP... just saying We sold almost 100 of them in 4 days in one store... it's the biggest (in terms of sales not size) store in the market. Here is a funny story... no one knew there were 100 Kinects in the back room (new lock up policy only managers can have keys... retarded) and so we sold out of a initial 26 and had non for 3 days till an overnight picker found them...

  • 0
aznable (on 12 November 2010)

on amazon.com the kinect is souldout from days, from bestubuys.com is soldout since launch and gamestop.com you are forced 2 buy with 2 orribles games with it and despite this the best selling product.

it is a failure! :D

another couple of units and the break even is a reality.lol

we will wait the next bunch of data released from nintendo to see another huge correction from vgchartz as thjey did recently? maybe the kinect sold will become 10k or 10m who knows?

  • 0
Kratos_36 (on 12 November 2010)

Sales are oke. Although , I expected a bit more. Kinda strange , they threw in huge launch party's and an enormous $ 500.000.000 add campaign.Like to see how it did in EMEAA , but I think Move did do better there.

  • 0
justinian (on 12 November 2010)

@heruamon & Darth Tigris

C'mon, both Move and Kinect, got heavy critism and support when the sales figures where released on VGCharts.

As usual the kiddish way out is to blame the PS fans because they are not writing what you want to read.
And yes, I know it works both ways. Ps3 fans do the same.

Read (if possible) the similar thread that was made regarding the initial Move sales and tell me what's the difference between X360 fans attacking move sales and this thread. None.

This is an American site (with the largest amount of users being american) and the X360 is an American console with a bigger HD market share, espeicially in NA.
I will say this site is more likely to be dominated by X360 supporters.

That's me being totally non-biased.

  • 0
MorgZ (on 12 November 2010)

I think MS will be really happy with these initial sales (am I right in thinking it does not include the first weekend?). Only the hardcore will purchase it straight on launch. The biggest potential for MS is the Christmas Day present market. Having bought it on EU launch day and now that I have played with Kinect for a couple of days word of mouth is going to be positive and will encourage more people to purchase it as well.

How many are MS hoping to sell by the end of the year? I expect ~ 5 million / 10% market penetration would be a realistic target that could be achieved?

PS. Dance Central + Alchohol is a winning combination.

Wait a second, 480k is not that much less then what Move has done worldwide in 2 months checks It's actually one and a half times Move's Americas sales, and the same number of units Move sold in a month! Wow, and these are only the first 3 days of sales in Americas, can't wait to see EMEAA numbers in a week.

Haha...Poor Greenberg. Sucks to be the butt of a joke, doesn't it? If you don't like the fact that Kinect isn't doing what your company said it was going to do, then leave and find someone else to pay your bills.

  • 0
Icyedge (on 11 November 2010)

Dreamcast, Vgchartz never implied the numbers are official or spot on. If Greenberg has problem with sites taking Vgchartz numbers as official, then he should LOL at those website.

  • 0
Icyedge (on 11 November 2010)

Darth Tigris, theres a fundamental difference between debating Vgchartz numbers and what M. Greenburg said. Numbers arent rocket science, but Vgchartz do have a good methodoly and are right most of the time.

  • 0
dreamcast210 (on 11 November 2010)

How was there anything wrong with Greenberg's tweet? He no doubt knows the real numbers. My guess is they are higher than are being reported here, which are estimates. His "LOL" was at the fact that many video game sites are taking VGChartz estimates as official numbers. Don't worry everyone. We will no doubt hear something soon from MS as to the launch numbers.

  • 0

Darth Tigris (on 11 November 2010)

This community is so confusing.

I've seen vicious attacks on VGC's numbers for the PS3 for most of the year and Move for the last month or so, but the moment a MS exec attacks them everyone jumps to the defense of VGC's numbers.

Yeah, this community confuses me so ...

@Pyramid12

Ok, look here you little punk. It's quite obvious that you are a PS3 fanboy. That being said...are you saying/admitting that your console is NOT the best system? This is the very first time that a PS3 fanboy admits their system isn't the best. And before you say i'm a 360 fanboy....i don't have one. I have a Wii and a PS3.
How am i back peddling?......just because i said Move helped sell PS3 consoles? It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure that was gonna happen. That doesn't make Move a success....it's still a fail.
And your so called points about Slim,Reach and Fable not helping console sales is just moronic. First of all the fact is PS3 only really started to outsell 360 since Sept 25th...use the charts to verify. Slim was release way before that on June 14th. And as for the games?.....how stupid are you ? It is a proven fact that certain games do not sell consoles. Who honestly says "Gee i really want to play Fable 3...so i'm going to pay for the game and buy the console while i'm at it"
The fact is.....your a gimp. Your arguments are weak. And just like everything Sony.....your a fail. Lets check back at the end of November shall we? Lets see where the console numbers will be at that time. Lets show the whole Vgchartz clan how wrong and stupid you are.

  • 0
Pyramid12 (on 11 November 2010)

@jezze

AHAHAHAHA OMFG!!! lay off drugs?

Where in my post did I mention PS3 is teh best etc etc? your the one that seem high PAL, then now your going "ofcourse PSmove made ps3 sell more" after you called it fail? you just made the 360 look bad after those idiotic statements you made now your trying to back pedal.

speaking of nothing new to offer 360 just had slim,reach,fable 3 yet PS3 still trashing it? LOL!!!! again you just made 360 look even worst. Now you want to talk about crying? when the past few day its 360 fans that have been all sooking in the corner after the adjustments.

maybe you should take your own advice and lay off drugs it might help you think clearer before posting a response when your brain isn't in 360 lalaland.

  • 0
jezze_jamez (on 11 November 2010)

@Pyramid12

Wow buddy lay off the drugs, your making yourself look like a fool. Do you really want to talk numbers?.....lets do that then.

May you be reminded that overall console sales put PS3 in last place. If the PS3 is really the best console....why are they still behind?
PS3 has only been leading console sales for the past 6 weeks....Of course Move made the PS3 sell more, it's a new toy. That was expected, especially when the other 2 console had nothing new to offer.
Phony Playstation fans better enjoy those "killer console sales" they had because now that Kinect is released, and Nintendo is releasing great games (Nintendo always cleans up at Christmas anyways) PS3 will be back in 3rd place where it belongs.
So in short all you Phony fanboys please go cry in the corner. And stop complaing and coming up with excuses of why your console is a fail.

Ok if they have just shipped 1,5 Million to Europe in first month.
And they shipped 1 Million in North America (http://venturebeat.com/2010/10/21/sony-says-it-shipped-1m-playstation-move-units-in-a-month/)
They shipped over 2,5 Million World wide.
How many do you think are in stock ? 2 Million? LOL!

  • 0
Pyramid12 (on 11 November 2010)

@ttweed

WOW nice old link you got there,how bout this one.

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/82557/playstation-move-sell-through-update/

"The last sales report we did was in week 4 at 470,000 units which is considerably lower than the 600,000 units we are now placing on week 4"

VGC updated their original sales for PSmove and according to VGC

PSmove 4 weeks(1 month) = 600k, week 6 = 745k which means its close to 1m or already is right now since the last update.

"It is also clear that with Sony still selling over 100,000 Move controllers per week, they will easily sell-through the remaining ~1.25 million by the end of the year (if not significantly more)." BOOO YAH?!

  • 0
scottie (on 11 November 2010)

@ ttweed - Oh yeah, I was meant to actually write somethign rather than just quoting, thanks for reminding me.

Yes, the Wii's sales included a full week, whereas Kinect was 3 days, however, the Americas is by far the 360's best region - even if Kinect outsells the Wii in a fraction of the world, Greenberg will still be wrong because of the rest of the world.

  • 0
barzen (on 11 November 2010)

@ttweed
Kinect hasn't beat out anything.
Move has sold over 1,5 Million in Europe in the first month (acc. to sony)

Till now they have asupply bottleneck.

It would'nt be the first time that vgchartz underestimated the PS3.

  • 0
Pyramid12 (on 11 November 2010)

LOL @ jezze

Yeh keep saying PSmove is fail when its the reason why PS3 has been trashing the 360 weekly, your only making the 360 look worst whit those statements.

OT: Is this really the initial sales???? WTF happened to the biggest launch ever(according to MS) and the 500m marketing with the whole NA going crazy even ophra and the news, and also all the massive line waiting to grab kinect? is this really IT?

  • 0
ttweed (on 11 November 2010)

@scottie this sales data is from less than 1/2 a week.. so it would seem that even the vgchartz numbers will have kinect selling more than the wii did in the first week. Easily.

  • 0
ttweed (on 11 November 2010)

@Raze that was 300k Move sales for the first 10 days http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/82269/playstation-move-300000-units-sold-in-first-ten-days/ and the estimate was 470k for the Move for the first 4 weeks.

Kinect has essentially beat out the first month of move sales in 2-3 days before being released outside of north america. Sony figure was worldwide from the start.

  • 0
jezze_jamez (on 11 November 2010)

And heeeere come the PS3 fanboys. Let's not forget people that:
(1) Kinect was released pretty close to CoD, many kids were probably saving their money for that game and will wait until they more money for Kinect.
(2) This is only like 3 days of sales.

I love the way PS3 fanboys start trying to come up with every single excuse in the book to try and make it seem as though Kinect is a fail. Lots are talking about the cashola that MS spent to advertising. BIG DEAL.....thats how business is done fools. Just face it.
Wii= Win
Kinect= Win
Move= Fail

  • 0
C_Hollomon (on 11 November 2010)

So for 500m in advertising, that's all the Kinect could do in a week? Very disappointing. Didn't do much better than the move. I expect a price drop before Thanksgiving.

  • 0

So, did it outsell the Move's launch numbers? Wasn't the Move at 300k for the same duration?

"VGChartz Hardware data for the period 19th Nov 2006 to 25th Nov 2006:
Console Wii
America
529,658"

says Greenberg. “We’ll definitely sell more sensors than the Wii sold when it launched or the Xbox 360 sold when it launched.”

"over 475,000 Kinect Sensors had been sold in the Americas"

"LOL'ing at sales reports from VGChartz, why do people release info as official when there is no source or science behind the #s?"

  • 0
damndl0ser (on 11 November 2010)

If that is the real aaron greensburg, then I would have to say that the numbers are probably under tracked by a lot. I guess we will have to wait and see. I for one was hoping for 600k in N. America alone. But I didn't realize it was going to be for only 3 days time. So I think Kinect still did well even if these numbers stand true. And I believe that they are only a drop in the bucket, cause when Christmas time roles around this thing will be sold out everywhere.

  • 0
fastyxx (on 10 November 2010)

Call of Duty is a casual game. Every casual player has it. It's the one game the 40 year old who plays twice a month buys. It used to be Madden or Gran Turismo. Now it's Call of Duty. MAG/Killzone/Battlefield are hardcore. Call of Duty is NOT hardcore. The whole reason that game works is that anyone who picks it up and can steer can be a bada$$ and own the field once in a while, and that ANYONE who plays long enough will reach the top level. It's the definition of casual. "Everyone wins. Everyone gets a participation ribbon." It's the My Little Pony game of shooters. It's fun. It's pretty. It runs well. But it's not hardcore.

  • 0
theprof00 (on 10 November 2010)

I don't think there will be a lot of games for Kinect with variety. I reckoned we will see a lot of sequels because there isn't much you can do without a controller.

  • 0
zzamaro (on 10 November 2010)

@Rawnchie14

Your comment is kind of ironic because all we have seen on kinect if a lot of casual games:
Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports, Dance Central, Kinectimals, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved. And PS move is the one it's getting the hardcore games: MAG, RE5: GE, Heavy Rain, SOCOM 4, Killzone 4, I2, LittleBigPlanet 2, No more heroes, Dead Space Extraction.

Anyway, I have no plans on getting Kinect until it gets good games and 0% chance on move.

  • 0
AnthonyW86 (on 10 November 2010)

I guess the sales are in line of expectations, although considering the hype and and the 200k+ pre-orders a week before launch tasted for more.

The thing that does impress me however is the amount ot additional software titles that were bought. With a bundled game you normaly wouldn't alot of additional titles to be sold at first, but the amount of additional titles aside Kinect Adventures combined are more than the total amount of Kinect units.

To put it briefly, on average every Kinect buyer has bought atleast one other title in the first two days, seems like Kinect might be quite the software seller after all(although i do think this will slow down over time, since the launch titles have practically all the possible genre's covered).

  • 0

"Move has one method of control, the EyeToy picks up the Move controller. Period."

Very wrong. E.g.:
1.) the PSEye picks up the movements of the user (just like Kinect, but obviously worse)
2.) the PSEye picks up the Move. Right.
3.) the Move-internal sensors precisely give information about position, acceleration, orientation etc. Yes, this also works when the PSEye looks somewhere else.
4.) Arbitrary combinations of Move and either the Navigation controller or the traditional Dualshock

THAT's a bevy of control combinations! Not what Kinect offers.

  • 0
Rawnchie14 (on 10 November 2010)

@ Statix

You do, when Kinect can be used along side a traditional controller. Move has one method of control, the EyeToy picks up the Move controller. Period. Kinect, will over time have a bevy of control schemes and possibilities, combinations and etc. What you bought with Move, is all you're getting, plus an EyeToy.

Sorry but Kinect has more plausible hardcore gaming applications imo, since it isn't 100% reliant on its motion controls and the hardware that runs it.

@crissindahouse

"Hardcore gamers" are a niche, small, insignificant group? I guess that's why Call of Duty sold 7+ million copies on day one.

If you're not a real, hardcore gamer, why the freaking hell are you even doing on this site? Hahahahaha...

@crissindahouse: hehe, sure. They likely have spent rather 20% of their budget pre-launch/NA-only. And of course the ratio will change over time. But by now they have for sure paid more for ads alone than earned from people who bought Kinect.

"but I don't think there's any dispute over which device is the more precise, responsive, preferred controller for HARDCORE gamers"

right, a controller and nothing like kinect, wii xyz or move... but HARDCORE gamers are just a very small group nowadays so i think your bash post was useless.

500k is in line with most reasonable projections. It's not as though there are stacks of unsold Kinect sensors at retail after launch; they sold close to 100% through.
The hardware bundles are the more interesting number though as it will provide better information as to whether Kinect is primarily selling to current 360 owners or if it's breaking significantly into the "Wii" demographic.

@Jumping

Decent sales, but you expect A LOT when you're devoting $500 million in advertising budget. Not to mention that sales might tail off and the device has a risk of fading off into complete obscurity or social/consumer apathy, if bad word of mouth gets through about either how laggy and unresponsivve the device is, how you need a big apartment/room, the complexity of setting it up and actually making it work, and (most importantly) how LIMITED the device is. My impressions are that Kinect will be something people use 5-10 times and just throw into the closet. If this happens, it doesn't bode well for longevity of sales in the long run for Kinect.

Plus, even if it does outsell PS Move, I personally as a hardcore/real gamer, still FAR prefer the PS Move controller, and I don't think I need to explain to anyone why. Kinect might get some housewives and casuals to buy it in the short term, but I don't think there's any dispute over which device is the more precise, responsive, preferred controller for HARDCORE gamers.

So that means Microsoft has payed more than $1000 on advertising for each and every Kinect sold so far... ;-)

Damn, my precition are a bit off but not that bad. I said 500K for the first week, but obviously, since the current 479 K isnt a full week it will do more than 500K. Great sales I say.

Brett, any news on the 360 Hardware numbers?

drkohler (on 10 November 2010)

@crissindahouse No Switzerland.
If you read my last post (unlike Koweniki), you'd see the list prices I mentioned. MS had a large ad push in the past 2-3 weeks concerning Kinect - including large demo stations at major train stations for example = mucho $$$ spent. However, when the price of $219 for a standalone unit was mentioned, people's reactions were rather sceptical in general. This explains why Kinect didn't really seem to fly off the shelves here.

I exepected a number closer to 600K, but time will tell. My method for my estimate was pretty barebones and inaccurate, since I took a rough estimate of the ONLY the 3 best buys in my area, and averaged things out nationwide. The games titles were all sold out without a doubt and so where the stand alone bundles, but there was a solid amount of console+kinect packages remaining.

Good sales.
Got my Kinect today and been playing it with the little one and all in all very enjoyable first outing. Mostly played the Kinect adventures which was a blast. I will be waiting a bit now before buying any more games due to Christmas and the presents but loving it so far. Video Kinect is cool already spoken the daughter in Uni worked a treat better than skype and on the big TV to boot.

I live in a terraced house so space was always a premium but turns out we have 8 foot of clear space. Having said that my terraced house is not one of the smallest so I could see others struggling but better placement of the sensor i.e. higher up should reward you with a smaller space requirement.
