Nintendo of America: New Super Mario Bros Wii Has Topped 2m
by Jacob Mazel, posted on 10 December 2009 / 2,750 ViewsAccording to a Nintendo of America press release, New Super Mario Bros Wii has topped 2.0m units in the United States according to Nintendo's internal figures. The figure is probably through December 5, and timed to coincide with the NPD release to show that New Super Mario Bros Wii is still selling quite strongly in December.
Despite releasing in November, New Super Mario Bros Wii has performed strongly all over the world. It saw the biggest opening of any Wii title in Japan. With strong sales worldwide, New Super Mario Bros Wii should join Modern Warfare 2 as the latest releasing title (Nov 2009) to chart among the fifty best selling titles of the 2000s decade, which runs from January 2000 to December 2009.
The figures are probably in line with Nintendo's expectations, as Satoru Iwata stated at a recent investor conference that he felt Nintendo's Wii Fit Plus, New Super Mario Bros Wii, and Wii Sports Resort were each capable of hitting 10m units shipped by the end of March 2010.

nsmb is gonna outsell easily MW2 in ps3 this month. MW2 in 360 by january?I dont know
Reggie says, "on one particular platform, I believe so." The guy interviewing him just tries to butt in with "on 360" while he's in the middle of saying it. That's where the whole confusion comes from.
is a fantastic game indeed my bf and I are having a blast playing it and who cares what (cant stand him) Reggie said play the game and have fun
@trestres Reggie was asked by Geoff if he meant the 360 version, and he said "on one particular platform." Don't try to spin what Reggie said, it's all in this video you just have to watch it. Not doing it makes you look desperate. Here's the link for everyone to finally settle this one: http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/gametrailers-tv/77 Inside or outside of the USA doesn't matter, NSMBW will defintely outsell the PS3 version of MW2.
not bad ninty not bad at all.. i reckon the game is capable of selling 7 million threw January
In the end, Sports Resort, Wii Fit Plus, and Super Mario Bros Wii will all outsell Modern Warfare 2.
Blablablabla regiie said this reggie said that bla bla bla bla. Who cares (except mostly obviously frustrated people who are looking to find some chink in the Nintendo armour). And don't give me that "ah it's just a game for us" excuse, when somone uses harsh language like "Not doing it makes you look desperate", it's more than a game to that person. What IS important? NSMBWii is a great game, with super great sales. That's all, end of story.
it will surpass both version combined its just a matter of time ...dudes ...
@FreeTalk. No, it doesn't. The way decades have always been used is from 0 - 9, not from 1 - 10. I know that the first year was 1, not 0 - it doesn't change the decades we use (a decade afterall is any measurement of ten years).
"...which runs from January 2000 to December 2009." That is only one year off. It started in 2001 and runs through all of 2010, actually. Otherwise, good stuff.
Reggie was asked by Geoff if he meant the 360 version, and he said yes. People don't try to spin what Reggie said, it's all over the internet you just have to browse for it. Not doing it makes you look desperate. I think Reggie meant one platform for COD: MW2 worldwide. Through the first week of December, NSMB Wii is at ~4m. It is still a long shot to top Modern Warfare 2 on X360 by January worldwide, but NSMB Wii will see increased sales in December over November due to having more weeks of availability, while Modern Warfare 2 will decline rapidly...mainly because the industry isn't big enough for a single game to sell 1m+ per week for very long.
@Severance Actually he only betted on 'one-platform' which could mean either the XBOX or the PS3. Therefore it still stands that he will likely win the bet.
We're still going on about this bet? Fine, have fun without me guys... *continues to play New Super Mario Bros. Wii*
I think reggie will win the bet... we just have to wait 8 weeks for NPD january..
What the f...? Did it do more this week than Black Friday week? That would be... odd. And awesome.
He still has over a month, and it's still sold out. There will be far more crow eating by the fanboys if he manages to win the bet.
@nero: it will eventually outsell it and maybe combined but the question is if it will out it before January
@Blacksaber the link says sold, soo adding all the numbers NSMBW adds a total of 3.6m WW, can it surpass MW2 on PS3, i think it has a shot, but on the 360?? mmm could be close but seen as how this game was sold out in many online stores i think it may can!! what do u think??
@Severance Not really sure what you mean? NSMBW is bound to outsell the PS3 version of MW2 by the end of January (most likely before in my opinion) which is precisely in line with what Reggie said.
the question is.. how many crows did reggie eat? if i say 1 million it would be undertracked.
Apparently it is internal numbers so what another 600,000 in America alone this past week. 1.39 through 2 weeks of November and another 610k for the week after to fit these numbers. Oh wow that would be incredible. Factor in the rest of the Americas and this past week's numbers could be in the 650k-700k range. That's some pretty brutal sales haha.
Wait is this sold sold or shipped...since I'm not thinking to well right now...
