Nintendo ... is amazing the DS sales are still up ? and Wii sales Still breaking the 1M mark ... someone in kyoto looking at this and saying "We can take that vocation that we didnt got during GC era" hdausdh by the way New mario sales will outcome COD MW 2 its just a matter of time to that happens guys ...just a matter of time ...

GOD collection really screwed.I would have thought it would sell at least 500k in this region.Oh well.

I may hate the console :L but well done 360 for having such an amazing attachment rate (Y)

To be fair though, these days it's rare I see the chartz with a game in th top ten for the month worldwide selling less than 100,000.

Ten years ago you were lucky to see that at all :L just shows how far gaming has come along.

PS3 software are in line with 360's in terms of percent of U.S PS3 install base. PS3 is doing just as good or even better than the 360 is doing for its install base.

  • 0
kazuyamishima (on 09 December 2009)

@Uberkiffer:
the 360 has almost twice the install base of ps3 in The Americas, so the chartz are expected, japan and Others are other things.

Uberkiffer (on 09 December 2009)

Okay, so get this. Some stats.

All 360 Games (11 total): 7,525,913 units sold
All Wii Games (9 total): 4,967,441 units sold
All PS3 games (8 total): 3,484,335 units sold

MW2 (360) sold more units (3,767,759) than all ps3 games combined.
Without MW2 (360) the 360 sold 3,758,154 units, which is still greater than the number sold for all ps3 games (including MW2).

Looks like proof to me that the real winners here are the 360 and the Wii. PS3 can finally sell hardware, but still can't manage to move their "AAA" games :(

The only impressive thing I see for PS3 here is its console sales. This is the holidays when people are buying things in droves and their software sold like crap. New consoles sales were probably for new christmas gifts and they all came bundled with games (few of which made the list above) and existing gamers evidently didn't bother to purchase much of anything... how is that on fire? I think that both the Wii and the 360 are sitting much prettier for NA. Solid console sales + terriffic software sales.

Tridrakious (on 09 December 2009)

The PS3 is on fire.

This gen has heated up, can't wait to see what next year does with even more firepower.

LinKing12 (on 09 December 2009)

Wow, Sony's coming up. Either that, or their sales were so terrible last year, they had nowhere to go but up.

In any case, Nintendo rules the current gaming market. I hope they come up with something to combat the rival-motion-controllers thing next year.

And why is Wii often compared to the other two consoles combined, while PS3 and XBox 360 are always separately compared to each other? That doesn't seem fair; if they do that, they ought to combine DS and Wii together in the comparisons. We'll see if there's any competition after that...

Didn't Microsoft host Beatles Rock band at E3 this year? It sold more on the Wii. Ha! Even without $100 dollar Walmart card an Modern Warfare 2 pack ins the Wii still outsold 360? Double Ha Ha!! DS Rules all. Good sales all around.

Yslaire )

"America" is more than just USA - these numbers in the preview are only for USA, because the NPD only reports US data

  • 0
Makaha (on 09 December 2009)

@Nsanity
of course the 360 will sell more software, the 360 has almost twice as much hardware sold than PS3
in other regions, the 360 doesn't do as well, the attach rate in Europe/others is a bit higher on the PS3 than the 360 in that region

but no doubt, in the U.S. the 360 sell tons and tons of software

  • 0
Yslaire (on 09 December 2009)

There's somthing i don't understand about the HW chart. :/

If i read correctly the latest US chart (ending nov. 28th), there's already 476 K PS3s sold. How come the figure for the whole month is at 731 K ?

  • 0
TheTruthHurts! (on 09 December 2009)

Awesome sales all around.

There is a lot of green on that Chart. 360 software is amazing!

heruamon (on 08 December 2009)

What's intersting was how many people on this very site told us how the PS3 wasn't doing badly last year...I would surprised if these numbers are close to NPD (not surprised at the numbers themselves), since I thought PS3 would have outsold the 360 by more than 30K units.

XxXProphecyXxX (on 08 December 2009)

Ps3 up by over 90%!!

How the HECK is DS up year over year!? Top system of all time confirmed. Nintendo broke back into the console market, but Really I suppose they didnt need to. People point to GCN's lack of loses, but it was the GBA that made them a generational influence.

In a chaotic market the DS came down like a HAMMER. I hope they have the required Christmas stocks unlike last year. They should focus more on DS production instead of Wii.

  • 0
Cueil (on 08 December 2009)

reminds me how horrible the PS3 did last year... I do wonder why Microsoft didn't drop the hammer this year... maybe they want to keep the price the same even when Natal launches...

  • 0
dandd (on 08 December 2009)

Am I the only one who is surprised at the low amount of PS3 software being sold? PS3 software sales aren't bad, but they aren't getting the boost that I thought they would.

  • 0
Pho_Hybrid (on 08 December 2009)

wow not the best of sales for 360 which
1)Atleast had an exclusive for their console this month, While the PS3 had GOD collection
2) had a deal for a $99 360
3) had the biggest launch in entertainment history on its side

  • 0
chickenLittle (on 08 December 2009)

lucky for M$, they had $100 walmart gift card + MW2 bundle, if not, they will destroyed by Ps3 and Wii.

I think anytime this week Wii will have topped 60 million WW am I right or very close?

  • 0
TheThunder (on 08 December 2009)

I have the feeling that NPD will have the Wii lower this month.

I love the new chart looks so clean and easy to read.

HW looks great for all consoles except PSP.

Nsanity (on 08 December 2009)

@Playingwithfirex: It's not like MS great marketing or having system sellers had anything to do with them having the edge over the PS3 this gen and people keep forgetting Sony were the ones who dominated both the PS1/PS2 era

  • 0

Wow PS trip nearly double November 08

Playingwithfirex (on 08 December 2009)

360 software sells better because it had a year lead and everybody(just about) has a 360, With PS3's selling like this, it's only a matter of time until it catches up

  • 0
Barozi (on 08 December 2009)

360 only 15% down ?

Quite good.

  • 0
Seece (on 08 December 2009)

360 has 5/10 in the top ten and 10/20 in the top 20 (not including wii sports)

Great SW for Microsoft.

  • 0
sully1311 (on 08 December 2009)

Nsanity:it dominates over ps3 sw, because it has around double the install base

  • 0
Munkeh111 (on 08 December 2009)

Yeah, 360 software is doing really well

  • 0
Nsanity (on 08 December 2009)

360 still continues to dominate it's rival in software, but overall all 3 are doing pretty well

  • 0
libellule (on 08 December 2009)

without the 100$ gift card of walmart it would have been even more funny ...

  • 0
theprof00 (on 08 December 2009)

wow ps3 up 91%

  • 0
iLLmaticV3 (on 08 December 2009)

Sony made a huge comeback and the DS is a sales beast!

  • 0
sully1311 (on 08 December 2009)

ps3 just pipped 360!

  • 0
Munkeh111 (on 08 December 2009)

Look at that! PS2 still selling!

Great sales from MW 2, but it is quite funny to see all those reds and then a 4% increase for DS and 91% increase for PS3. It does highlight how crap it does last year, but Sony have turned things around
