With total preorders now in excess of 500,000 units, Beatles: Rock Band looks set to arrive with a bang next week - 800,000 units combined would not be out of the question. Halo 3: ODST added a further 165,000 preorders this week and should reach around 1.3m preorders before release - suggesting an Americas week one of around 2 million (or about 70% of Halo 3's week one tally).

Modern Warfare 2 now has over 1.4m preorders (1.6m if you add PC as well) and should easily have the biggest debut of the year when it launches in November. Lower down the charts, New Super Mario Bros Wii continues to climb and should see preorders pick up the closer we get to November, same with Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin's Creed 2.

You can see last weeks chart here, and be sure to check back next week for the latest movers and shakers.

  • 1 for Halo: ODST

I better dust off my Xbox. This will be the first 360 game I bought in over a year

PS3 gamers don't preorder games that much.
You can see it in the charts.

and why isn't Uncharted 2 doing better in the pre-order charts?

Wet has exactly the same number of pre-orders. That's weird.

I pre-ordered Beatles Rockband for Wii today. I always pre-order my games the day before they come out, lol.

@Munkeh111:

Uncharted's 130K opening was WW :P
Uncharted 2's Preorders have already doubled Uncharted 1's opening week in the US.
I think that Uncharted 2 can sell up to 200K in US week one.

Gran Turismo 5 not being there is very worrying. Considering games like Bioshock 2 are there GT5 surely is being tracked. GT PSP not being there either when Persona is shows just how weak the GT brand is in NA now.

:(

3:1 in US, WW - no way.

  • 0
Munkeh111 (on 08 September 2009)

Rock Band Beatles should get 1m WW first week shouldn't it... I should pre-order mine tonight!

Nice going for Uncharted 2, already 70k, so compared to the first's opening of 130k, it should easily double that

Why are the PS3 MW 2 pre-orders so low, the 360 version won't outsell it 3:1 will it?

It would be nice if this table had a column for last week position... just saying...

DirtyP2002 (on 08 September 2009)

Here are the total pre-order numbers:

Xbox360: 3213k games are pre-ordered
PS3: 1091k games are pre-ordered

This week:
463k were pre-ordered for the Xbox360 this week
160k were pre-ordered for the PS3 this week.

Hope my math did not ruin it :D

trestres (on 08 September 2009)

Only 3 Wii games and 1 PSP game on the list. Down from last week, which means HD games took their places after the new releases.

Demon's Souls preorders are very impressive. Above R&C. Perhaps this could be a million seller?

  • 0
welshbloke (on 08 September 2009)

Only really mentioned due to the price error on Amazon (UK site, I think) when they put the pre order up for GT5. Just made me think that as other titles without a fixed dates seemed to make it on board then surely it would be on it to. The US Amazon site has it for pre order with a release date of 29th December for example.

@ Red4ADevil,
Wii has been the main music game system for a couple years now. There are far more music games on Wii than any other current generation system and music games tend to see better on Wii. I know, the Rockband developers and publishers have really screwed up their previous games on Wii but RB2 was screwed up a lot less than RB so things are getting better.

Red4ADevil (on 08 September 2009)

Im kinda suprised to see wii Beatles Rockband above the 360 and PS3 verison. This goes to show that for some well known titles like this, wii is no push over. I wonder how well NSMBWii and other upcoming titles til next year will do?

  • 0
donsterydo2 (on 08 September 2009)

MW2 on X360 - 130k every next week so i could be around 2.4m only pre-orders in US, so what ? 4.8m MW2 first week on X360 only in US ? XD

Zucas (on 08 September 2009)

Yea it's way too early to really start seeing big GT5 preorders. Game is listed for ealy 2010, not many details on it, and obviously not to much hype or marketing going around to really push many preorders. Give it another month or two when we start seeing Sony release more to get some more preorders.

Well it seems Rock Band: Beatles is going to have a pretty big launch. I'd say 800,000 first week is a very good estimate. MW2 and ODST obviously going to be big. But L4D 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted 2, and NSMB Wii continue to climb. Will start to see some bigger movements for those by October.

I think MW2 for PS3 will get a boost next week. I'm surprised Dead Space Extraction is not on the list.

But so has SC, ME2 and Bioshock 2?!

Welshbroke, GT5 isn't on the list because it has no announced American release date.

  • 0
welshbloke (on 08 September 2009)

I cannot see GT5 on the list. Considering how we suspect this game to be release ahead of Christmas and it is available for pre order this seems very suprising. Is this an error or have I just not seen it?

I would like to see what difference the TV ads do for ODST. If that ad does not do it nothing will.

  • 0
DirtyP2002 (on 08 September 2009)

I am VERY impressed with Splinter Cell. It is like 6 months away and in the top25! This is insane. Splinter Cell will be HUGE!

Call me crazy, but next week Halo ODST will see a 200k boost for the preorders. The "We are ODST" ad will do wonders and the campaign is rolling.

MW2 on 360 will see 2.4 million preorders in the US alone. This is sick. This might sell close to 4 million in its first week. Crazy Shit.

I like Bacon (on 08 September 2009)

Yay! Mario and Luigi is on there! I pre-ordered it on Friday. :D

It has lower pre-orders than scribblenauts but I expect it to do much better. I hope scribblenauts will sell really really well.

  • 0
Reasonable (on 08 September 2009)

Interesting how close most multi-platform titles are for 360/PS3 relative to install base, with the exception of MW2.

Clearly 360 owners in US are far more predisposed to pre-order, and really like their big exclusives and AAA shooters.

  • 0
Slimebeast (on 08 September 2009)

I'm impressed by Dragon Age origins, but Im afraid it's 'artificially' high on pre-orders because oft he in-game bonuses you get by preordering it (or something, I can't quite remember).

  • 0
jessegatepoo (on 08 September 2009)

C'mon PS3 pre order we need more people getting uncharted 2 and Rachet and Clank as well.
Also Modern Warfare 2 looks like it might break Gears 2 sale on the first day.

  • 0
--OkeyDokey-- (on 08 September 2009)

Yeah, Demon's Souls is pretty impressive.
Though I'd expect it to be like Metroid Prime Trilogy in that the vast majority of its first week sales will come from preorders.

Modern Warfare 2 is just massive. Preorders are growing by over 100k each week on 360 with 10 weeks to go! It's gonna be bigger than GTA4.

  • 0
elzumo (on 08 September 2009)

Demon's Souls is gonna be huge for Atlus.

  • 0
kopstudent89 (on 08 September 2009)

Yeah its true. Still the DS has more games being preordered, nothing at all for the Wii, however NSMB should climb up very nicely.

  • 0
Noobie (on 08 September 2009)

These are customers pre-orders or retailers pre-orders.?

  • 0
kopstudent89 (on 08 September 2009)

NSMB's preorder rate continue to rise! But with Muramasa and Beatles Rockband releasing, makes you wonder wonder whats left for Wii. Not even Wii Fit+ or Mario and Sonic are in the charts :S Though both are more casual, but it's still worrisome

  • 0
Euphoria14 (on 08 September 2009)

I was one of those added pre-orders for Demon's Souls. :-)

58k is nice. May be 75k+ by the time it releases if this rate keeps up.

MAFKKA (on 08 September 2009)

360 - MW2 going strong. And MW2 in general looks to be off to a great start. Will it break the sales record for the CoD franchise?
