The Xbox 360 has proven most successful in North America, but has also sold well in other regions. So far, it's sold 48.53 million units in North America, 25.71 million units in Europe, and 1.66 million units in Japan. It has also sold a combined 9.07 million units across the rest of the world.

With its strong install base the Xbox 360 has also managed to shift a massive amount of games. 229 games for the console managed to sell over one million units and 28 games sold more than five million units. Am I the only one who finds all the generic shooterbox comments rather funny? 7 out of the top 10 are shooters and the PS3 also had 6 shooters in their top 10 Did nobody read the top selling PS3 games article last week? Sometimes its sad to see how much trolling/hate happens on VGC as soon as "Xbox" or "Microsoft" are mentioned.

Cloudman (on 08 November 2015)

Haha, I said that as well on that article actually : P

Haha exactly! I said basically the same thing in the comments for the PS3's Top 10 games and got mad thumbs down for it from all the Sony fans on here. The truth hurts.

darkenergy (on 09 November 2015)

@Zoombael Yeah, exclusive JRPG's nobody cares about outside of video game forums.

Cloudman (on 08 November 2015)

Wow, this is a shocker. In a list dominated by shooters, the top game is Kinect Adventures? How did that happen??

SlayerRondo (on 08 November 2015)

Bundling with Kinect, that's how.

sethnintendo (on 08 November 2015)

I love how the first 9 were mature action-type games, then Kinect comes out of nowhere for #1.

Angelv577 (on 08 November 2015)

this is more evidence that ps and xbox owners are more alike that some make it out to be. ps and xbox owners has similar taste. both are shooters box.

darkenergy (on 09 November 2015)

Oh come on! WHY is Ghosts a top selling 360 game? :'(

teamsilent13 (on 08 November 2015)

Because next-gen wasn't established yet and it was a better game on 360 than Xbox One tbh. I love Ghosts :)

Darwinianevolution (on 08 November 2015)

Boy, Microsoft sure won the shooter demographic last gen.

lukeperryglover (on 08 November 2015)

Sharpryno (on 09 November 2015)

Consoles won the shooter genre, 6/10 ps3 top sellers were shooters T_T

NightDragon83 (on 08 November 2015)

Fact: For all the talk about the strength of Sony's 1st party lineup compared to M$'s, the 360 has more 1st / 2nd party exclusives in the top 10 than the PS3 does by a count of 3:1. Deal with it!

darkenergy (on 09 November 2015)

Fact #2: they still won't believe it and go the LA LA LAND in order to run away.

darkenergy (on 09 November 2015)

"go to".

sethnintendo (on 08 November 2015)

Kinect Adventures ruined the shooter top 10.

lukeperryglover (on 08 November 2015)

It's also not a great game....along with Ghosts lol

Skratchy (on 08 November 2015)

Wow. Almost the same as the PS3 top ten. Kind of sad.

Sharpryno (on 09 November 2015)

I think people still forget that the original Kinect is the fastest selling device in a 3 month span of all time.

ClassicGamingWizzz (on 08 November 2015)

10-Guns 9-Guns 8-Guns 7-Guns 6-Guns 5-Guns 4-Guns 3-Guns 2-Guns 1- Family friendly game !!!

Ganoncrotch (on 08 November 2015)

Gun fun for all the family!

wyluzuj (on 09 November 2015)

Now I understand why MS was so focused on the mandatory Kinect 2.0 for die Xbox One. They though it will sell software like hot cakes.

Zappykins (on 12 November 2015)

But they didn't make an Kinect Adventures 2.0 yet!

peterdavid12345 (on 09 November 2015)

Eh ??? No Skyrim ???? I'm pretty sure it was selling very well on Xbox 360.

QUAKECore89 (on 08 November 2015)

So much shooter games.... And there's a family game. Ahhh last gen was out of control.

hush404 (on 08 November 2015)

Just more proof that I'm note a 'core' gamer as per the numbers listed in the top 10 sales per platform articles. Love me some GTA, but the hell with the rest of that.

Shackkobe (on 08 November 2015)

I get the feeling like we are obsessed with shooting video games over here in the west...makes you wonder why the media likes to point the finger at video games every time there is a mass shooting...

MichiganerE (on 08 November 2015)

Kinect Sports at the top? Smh.

Apart from number one, Xbox is a "pew" "pew" console confirmed. No wonder the brand is only successful in America.

  • +7
lukeperryglover (on 08 November 2015)

Not quite true. Sure the xbox does terribly in Japan, but it does well in Europe and other regions, it's just that PlayStation dominated in Europe.
