Pachter: PS4 Will Outsell Xbox One Worldwide This Holiday, Nintendo Has No Chance

Pachter: PS4 Will Outsell Xbox One Worldwide This Holiday, Nintendo Has No Chance - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 25 October 2015 / 7,477 Views

Sony recently dropped the price of the PlayStation 4 to bring it into line with the Xbox One, however Wedbush Securities' Michael Pachter has told Fortune that the PlayStation 4 price cut won't "make much difference at all", and if Microsoft wants to win it will need to drop the price of the Xbox One.

"Microsoft should cut price only if it cares about how many consoles it sells," he added.

Pachter went on to detail the strengths of Microsoft's bundling strategy:

"First-party bundles cost around $2 and have a perceived value of $50, so they make a ton of sense. Third-party bundles are more expensive, but in many cases [are] associated with one console over the other…Even third party bundles cost only around $40, and the perceived benefit is $50 or more… Thus, bundles always make more sense."

Pachter noted that he expects the PlayStation 4 to outsell the Xbox One worldwide this holiday, but things could be close in the United States:

"The PlayStation 4 will outsell the Xbox One globally this holiday, and they will be pretty close in the US. Sony probably wins, however, as it has a great brand and is doing a great job marketing."

While Pachter expects Microsoft and Sony to both perform strongly this holiday, his diagnosis for Nintendo is grim. "Nintendo has no chance to be successful in consoles this holiday," he concluded.

That seems to be all this guy does - either state the super-obvious, or make outlandish predictions.

I mean... Nintendo didn't do well last season with Smash Brothers... doesn't get any better than that.

To be fair, I think their massive mistake with that was also putting a variation of it on the 3ds. It just killed off a whole bunch of console sales.

People are starting to see Nintendo products have short support cycle. with the Wii U cutting support soon and the 'New' 3DS cutting off the old 3DS.

johnsobas FujiokaMidori (on 26 October 2015)

neither of those things happened. My 2DS works just fine and plays every game except for 1 wii port that i own on wii. Big deal. Wii U is still getting plenty of support from Nintendo, it's missing support from others.

Why a picture of 3DS..? if you count in handheld consoles his statement makes no sense..

AlfredoTurkey FromDK (on 26 October 2015)

For the last time... when someone says the word "consoles", they are talking home consoles. Handhelds are called "handhelds" in normal discussion. Patcher was referring to Nintendo's home consoles.

Ps4 outselling Xbox One worlwide in holidays is a fact, not sure about US

  • +4
Chasesdaddy84 raulbalarezo (on 25 October 2015)

Its been far stronger in the US and now with the COD bundle in the US it will outsell it by a large amount. USA has always been Sony land outside of the 360 generation which was an anomaly (mostly due to price and a year head start).

Come on guys, he's gotta make obvious predictions, so that when he makes retarded ones he can say:

"Yeah but I was right on a lot of things"

Well now, hidden in the blindingly obvious announcement that PS4 will win globally (you can't call it a prediction, because prediction means not already a foregone conclusion) is the little prediction that Sony will win USA holidays, which is definitely a tougher call to make. So he has some stones to come out and make a USA prediction as well. Personally I lean towards PS4 winning USA as well, but I think it could go either way and we don't know what sort of action MS will take to counter the PS4 price cut. Though if Pachter has any inside knowledge on Xb one pricing it means MS don;t plan to move on price, because just about the only way MS can secure a win this holidays is with some lower priced deals.

I can't even give my WiiU away. I offered it to my nephew and he'd rather an X1 game - he said 'a', not a couple lol.

Why is this guy always stating the obvious?

  • 0

He is not always stating the obvious. He is either wrong or stating the obvious.
