The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation, as well as comparing the 8th generation consoles. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 18,498,063
PlayStation 3 Total Sales: 9,170,921
December 2014 is the 14th month the PlayStation 4 is on sale. The gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the 14th month the PlayStation 3 was on sale. The gap increased by 672,273 units, to bring it to 9.33 million units.
Both consoles launched in November. The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. In its first 15 months on sale the PlayStation 4 has sold a total 18.50 million units, while the PlayStation 3 had sold 9.17 million units.
