Welcome to the ‘Top 10’ weekly feature. Each week we will be taking a look at the top 10 selling games in a particular genre, platform, most recent month, even sprinkling in the top 10 selling games from a past year. All sales specified will be worldwide, unless stated otherwise. If there is a particular top 10 you want to see leave a comment and it may be featured in a future top 10. As a note all sales figures are retail only.

This week we will be looking at the top 10 selling games in October 2013. Last week we looked at the top 10 selling PSP games and the week before that the top 10 selling DS games.

Top 10 Selling games in October 2013

Looking at the top 10 bestselling games in October 2013, seven of the games were released in October and the other three games were released in September.

The top 10 bestselling games in October 2013 have sold a combined 14.79 million units. Pokémon X/Y is the only title to sell more than five million units, with 6.49 million units sold. Grand Theft Auto V for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are the only two other games to top one million units. The PlayStation 3 version sold 1.96 million units and the Xbox 360 version sold 1.43 million units.

There are four games that have two versions in the top 10. The two versions for each game are for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The two versions of Grand Theft Auto V sold a combined 3.39 million units. The two versions of Battlefield 4 sold a combined 1.46 million units. The two versions of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag sold a combined 1.42 million units. Finally, the two versions of Batman: Arkham Origins sold a combined 1.33 million units.

When you break the top 10 down by platform there are five PlayStation 3 titles, four Xbox 360 titles and 3DS title. The five PlayStation 3 titles sold a combined 4.65 million units or 31.4 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The four Xbox 360 titles sold a combined 3.65 million units or 24.7 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The one 3DS title, Pokémon X/Y, sold 6.49 million units or 43.9 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.

The top 10 selling PSP games as a graph really shows how popular the Pokémon franchise really is. Pokémon X/Y sold almost as much as the rest of the top 10 combined.

Here are the sales figures outside the top 10: The top 11 titles sold more than 500,000 units and the top 20 titles sold more than 200,000 units. The top 35 titles sold more than 100,000 units and the top 68 titles sold more than 50,000 units.

The 3DS was the top selling platform for the month of October with 1.73 million units sold. It is also the only platform to top one million units sold. The PlayStation 3 is the second bestselling platform and bestselling home console with 664,382 units sold. Microsoft ended up selling 427,498 Xbox 360’s for the month.

PlayStation Vita sales grew the most month-over-month percentage wise with an increase of 63.7 percent. Sony managed to sell 298,105 PlayStation Vita’s in October. The Wii U was next with 188,276 units sold. There was also 137,344 PSP’s sold, 123,978 Wii’s sold, and 34,315 DS’s sold. In total, there was 3.60 million consoles sold for the Month of October, which is a 5.6 percent increase compared to September

For the month of October there was 37.17 million games sold. The PlayStation 3 was the top platform with 11.05 million games. There were also 9.06 million games sold for the Xbox 360, 2.67 million games sold for the Wii and 1.08 million games sold for the Wii U.

The 3DS was the top handheld with 8.50 million games sold. There were also 1.54 million games sold for the DS, 0.76 million games sold for the Vita and 0.64 million games sold for the PSP.
