This week we will be looking at the top 10 selling Wii games (Updated to first half of 2013). Last week we looked at the top 10 selling games in the year 2008 and the week before that the top 10 selling games in May 2013.
Looking at the top 10 bestselling Wii Games, two of the games were released in 2006, two in 2007, two in 2008, three in 2009, and one in 2011.
The two titles released in 2006 sold a combined 110.07 million units or 55.035 million units on average per title. The two titles released in 2007 sold a combined 33.59 million units or 16.795 million units on average per title. The two titles released in 2008 sold a combined 45.51 million units or 22.755 million units on average per title. The three titles released in 2009 sold a combined 79.9 million units or 26.633 million units on average per title.
The top 10 bestselling Wii games sold a combined 278.91 million units. The top title, Wii Sports, topped 80 million units sold. Wii Sports is also the top selling video game of all time, though it was bundled with the Wii outside of Japan.
The top three titles sold more than 30 million units and the top seven titles sold more than 20 million units. Nine of the top 10 titles sold more than 10 million units and Just Dance 3 is the one title not to crack 10 million sold. However, the game has sold 9.84 million units and is still averaging 4,000 units sold on a weekly basis. At that rate the game will top 10 million sold in 40 weeks.
Nine of the top 10 titles in 2008 are published by Nintendo. Just Dance 3 is the only title to be third party and it was published by Ubisoft.
The top 10 bestselling Wii games as a graph really shows how Nintendo was critical to the success of the Wii. Wii Sports is one of the most important titles for the Wii as it showed people how motion control gaming worked on the system.
Even though the casual titles such as Wii Sports and Wii Fit were critical to the success of the Wii, the core Nintendo franchises hit new records in sales. Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl are the bestselling titles in the franchises.
Here are the sales outside the top 10: The top 21 titles sold more than five million units and the top 55 titles sold more than two million units.
The Wii has sold 99.71 million units to date and should cross 100 million sold in the next four months. There have also been 847.81 million games sold for the Wii.
Nintendo has sold 378.11 million games or 44.6 percent of the total games sold for the Wii. Ubisoft has sold 78.70 million games, EA 58.06 million games, Activision 56.65 million games, Sega 30.18 million games, THQ 29.84 million games, and Disney 26.50 million games.
