Nintendo: Wii U and 3DS to have a Unified Account System - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 09 July 2012 / 4,392 ViewsDavid Marshall, the Nintendo Customer Service Respresentative, has confirmed in an e-mail to Nintendo World Power that the Wii U and 3DS will have a unified eShop account system.
"A unified account system will be implemented later this year with the launch of the Wii U," said Marshall.
"Eventually this same account system will be made compatible with Nintendo 3DS systems. At this time we have no additional details to offer and nothing to indicate how or if this will work outside the United States and Canada."
"In the meantime, if the system has a problem, taking it to an Authorized Service Center will maintain the Nintendo eShop account. If the system is stolen, we can transfer the account to a new system once we are provided with a valid police report."
"Of course, you asked this question because of the upcoming launch of New Super Mario Bros. 2 in retail and digital formats. What you need to know is that the digital format will only be available in the United States and Canada. We have nothing to announce regarding Latin American availability."

Digital version only available in US and Canada? That kind of defeats the purpose of digital doesn't it? I mean the convenience of availability even if you happen to be traveling with your portable system. I traveled last year with my PS-Vita and was able to download any game that had released in US market. I could not access the movie library which sucked.
Wii U and 3DS will share an account? Does this mean they're no moving away from friend codes?
This could be fantastic news, if it means you will have a gamertag like on the 360 or PSN. It woulld be the first step towards a modern online system for Nintendo.
Forget digital.....buy retail
Better late than ever I think.
Great. It's actually a step up with Nintendo. I hate games being tied to only one console, or game saves more importantly.
