Nintendo to have Better Wii U Launch Titles than the 3DS - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 01 May 2012 / 6,137 Views

Nintendo has learned from their mistakes with the lack of AAA titles for the 3DS and plans to have a stronger launch for its successor to the Wii, the Wii U, says the companies president Satoru Iwata. However he would not give any specifics on what the launch titles will be.

"There is always a limit to our internal resources," said Iwata. "The company now has to develop software for the Nintendo 3DS, has to prepare for the Wii U launch and has to finalize the hardware functionalities. With these circumstances in mind, if I said that an overwhelmingly rich software lineup would be prepared from day one, it would be too much of a promise to make."

Iwata does hope that several games on the Wii will become blockbuster sellers like with Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart Wii. "On the other hand, we are making efforts so that we will be able to make several proposals even from the launch period that can eventually become evergreen titles for the Wii U," Iwata continued.

"We have learned the lesson that we have to make that kind of preparation for the Wii U, or the Wii U will not gain enough momentum to expand its sales," Iwata added. "At the E3 show this June, you will be able to experience not only Nintendo's Wii U software but also the titles being prepared by the third-party publishers."

Considering how the 3DS lacked a killer title for the first 8 months, this should be easy.

Isn't Pikmin 3 rumoured to be a launch title? That alone would make it far better than the 3DS' launch lineup.

As Kid Icarus Uprising is released only a little more than a month ago, I don't think it is ready before 2014.

Ok, so now it's said third-party will be there, it's official, so let' wait and see it's only about a month.

To me that sounds lackluster speak. I'm guessing this means few original titles, a few 3rd party multiplats, and two, maybe three, 1st party games with one hopefully being a big hitter. Don't be surprised if there aren't that many titles, or ones that should have been a tad longer in development. I still think Nintendo can pull off a decent launch but they are in a strange place right now and the Wii U will take a year to hit its stride even after an excellent holiday expect slow sales till big titles can make it in fall 2013.

I'm still very interested in what they have planned. I hope the Wii U is better than the Wii.
