I got the first one by accident. My father just bought our first PC, back in 1994 and he brought a flop disc wich contained the first CIV. Awesome game, so awesome that I played it even though it was broken (the scroll coudn't pass the middle of the screen, god bless hotkeys). So when I got the opportunity to get the 3 cds green package of CIVII, I did with all my heart and never looked back.  

The presentation was awesome for it's time, with movies for explaining the wonders, awesome soundtrack and great multiplayer options. It played just like the first one, but more options. It was incredably balanced. I could build a civ with 12 cities and still win the game at monarch(if I remeber well). It wasn't about getting huge, although you could, but about using your resources wiselly. It gave you options. This package, with the scenarios, like the WWI, expanded the game, adding hours more of gameplay.

The only problem was the same that persisted throughout the series, the only way to improve difficult was to cheat. The AI received bonus over you, instead of having better strategies, wich lead to having them getting the gunpowder while you were researching for Math.

Apart from this, was a very addictive game. The addiition of mutliplayer with the hotseat option, helped me introduce a lot of friends to this game(my net was too slow).

In the end, it was my best game purchase ever and granted me more than 1000 hours of great fun. I hope the next CIV can get near this giant, like the last one almost did.
