Xbox Live Arcade Sales - 3/29/08 (TiQal ~1.2k) - News

Myan-themed Puzzle Game 'TiQual' opens up with a horrible start, while Microsoft kills GamerScore cheaters, and 'Brain Training' stays on top with over 13,000 units sold this week.
3/29/08 by Benjamin Schlichter
This week's chart is a bit different than normal. First, and most importantly, is the announcement by Microsoft that GamerScore cheaters gamercards were banned from Xbox Live, and their achievement points removed from the system. Because of this, 90% of games before December's Fall Update (ie, games tracked with Achievements) saw negative LTD numbers. Thousands of cheaters were banned from the service, causing each game to see losses in overall users being tracked via achievements.
The LTD change varied from game to game. Most games saw about 2.0-3.0% of their total userbase removed due to cheating. On this chart, games with negative trends (ie, almost all of them) were removed for this week only. What happens to LTD numbers, and the games next week? They'll chart like normal. We have the data for pre-ban card numbers, and this will factor into every week's charts. Overall, this will be more accurate than correcting the numbers this week - as the cheaters still bought the games.
In other news, for analysis:
- TiQal Bombed. At 1,200 units sold this weekend, it was a very poor start for the game. However, there is a small bright spot: I tracked the game every day, and Friday-Saturday saw a huge boost in total sales. This trend should help TiQal to see a large increase next week - a 150-300% increase should be seen.
- Brain Challenge saw a considerable drop during it's 3rd week on the charts. Still, it saw a great 3rd week, and is on track to hit an impressive 60,000-65,000 units on it's first month.
- N+ saw a very small, 17% decline on the week. It's still doing very, very well, and is 500 units away from #2 on the year (Metal Slug 3 is currently #2).

In Other News.....
- From now on, I will be producing a Top 100 only. This isn't due to not tracking certain titles anymore. VGC has a limit on the amount of information a News Story can contain. When you read this, the program I use to create/export my charts uses ALOT of XHTML/XML. A typical week's report contains over 100,000 bytes of data - just for the charts. VGC tends to cap the number of titles off at 120, give or take. However, I'd like to start including the % Changes each week...Which takes up alot of extra data.
Rumored Launch Schedule:
4/02/08 - Mr. Driller Online
4/09/08 (Confirmed: Ikaruga)
Also, Rocky & Bullwinkle's XBLA Splash page has been up for a week - typically, games only have Splash pages when they are coming out in the next wek or two. So it could be the 2nd title with Mr. Driller.

The makers of mad trackes are already working of another racing game, it looks very pretty. They even posted on XBLArcade.com a couple times, wanting feedback from for players.
Glory -
To be fair, TiQal is only the 2nd puzzle game released this year - Boogie Bunnies is the only other one. Brain Challenge might be considered a puzzle game (and if true, blows that theory out of the water).
But I do agree that more diversity should be in the XBLA library...Puzzlers are severely lacking from the X360's main library, so I'm assuming thats why they've let so many onto the Arcade service.
However, IMO, there's a SEVERE lack of good, real, Racing games on the Arcade service. We just have Mad Tracks (which, from what I've seen is OK to Good), and Novadrome (which consumer reception was real bad, and was maligned alot critically)....We need more Vigilante 8 Arcade, and other, better, racers.
Really excited for the next 2 weeks of releases. Mr Driller and Ikaruga are both going to be HUGE.
I think that the poor sales of Tiqal are a reaction to yet another puzzle game being released rather than it being a particularly poor game. It may pick up some sales over the long term because of the co-op mode.
I hope MS are taking notice, we want a variety of games not just puzzle games.
Yay !!! N+ , N+ your our man ... if he cant do it than probably Bionic Commando can :P ( lame joke :P ) .
Ikaruga!!!!!!
I was one of the 6k who bought N+...
And I must say it's full of win!
As expected, TiQal was going to do crap. I can't wait for some real games to come out on XBLA already. I'm def. looking forward to Ikaruga and all of Capcom's XBLA games. Like I said before, they seriously need to release more classic games. I've been getting bored with all this XBLA stuff. I hope Sonic 3 comes out soon and some good arcade beat em up classics.
