In the latest segment of Iwata Asks, Nintendo stalwars Satoru Iwata, Shigeru Miyamoto and Shigesato Itoi tackled the subject of the 3DS and 3D in general. There's a nice little snippet regarding Pikmin in the middle of it all, though. Check the excerpt below.
“Itoi: Well…you know…this is really… Oh, that’s Pikmin! Great!”
“Miyamoto: Doesn’t Pikmin look great?
“Iwata: It seems like Pikmin is perfect for 3D.
“Miyamoto: I like the way they scurry around.
“Itoi: Pikmin is a game with a peculiar 3D effect as if you’re getting down on hands and knees to look at something small. Man, I want one of these! I’ll buy one, Prez! How much is it going to cost me, Prez?”
There hasn't been any official announcement of a Pikmin-game for the 3DS yet, but it sure sounds like something Nintendo are considering. Pikmin 3 has reportedly been in development for the Wii since at least 2008, when it was first mentioned by Shigeru Miyamoto, although no official screens have been shown yet.

I just read the whole thing...I don't think Pikmin 3 will be on 3DS. I think that Pikmin 3 will still be on the Wii and maybe a Pikmin(1) remake is coming to the 3DS...
Remember back in 2005 Miyamoto said that the Wii was perfect for Pikmin and now its 2011 and no Pikmin officially announced yet.
No! I am a huge fan of Pikmin but I stopped with the whole Handheld thing and didn't want a 3DS! If Pikmin 3D is released on 3DS than I may have to buy one anyway.

ah man... if Pikmin3 goes 3DS then I'll have to get one. On the other hand, this might mean that the hardware they are toying around with for the next home console will have a 3D aspect and then I'll have to buy a new 3D tv by 2012 along with N6.
