The VGChartz Gap Charts Monthly Update for September 2010 - News

Here we have three charts representative of the three main regions tracked by VGChartz, and a global chart which brings all of the data together. The line on each graph represents the gap in the install base (sales through to consumers), and the title indicates which console is in the lead in the particular region covered.
Americas - X360 is now ever so close to a dominant 10 million lead in the Americas, mainly thanks to Halo: Reach this month. The PS3 put up a fight of its own though, and PS Move debuted to respectable levels and even raised PS3 HW 2 weeks in a row. October will see many releases across both platforms, and should see sales rise as Kinect and Gran Turismo 5 grow closer.
Gap - 9,963,052M - X360
EMEEA - Another exciting month in EMEEA, as X360 narrows the gap down to just 60k. X360 could very well take this back by the end of the month, but PS3 sales have seen impressive increases there since Move debuted. Also the weeks leading up to GT5's release will see a good spike. Could Kinect offset both Move and GT5, and regain the crown for EMEEA?
Gap - 59,367k - PS3
Japan - PS3 continues its 4 year dominance over the X360 in Japan. With GT5 and Move on the horizon, PS3 sales should be up for the rest of the year, save for the massive FFXIII bump last December. It's unlikely Kinect will be the X360's golden egg in Japan; stranger things have hapened though.
Gap - 4,236,509 - PS3
Global - The X360 continued to increase the gap, which was looking very bleak for the console before the Slim arrived. Sales should be flat for both consoles throughout October, save for the last week, so I don't expect the gap to significantly grow by November. Then it's up to Kinect, Gran Turismo 5, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Black Friday to determine who leads the race into December.
Gap - 5,666,750 - X360
Wii V HD - The gap extended the furthest it ever has in one month, by over 800k units. Going into October it looks like without a price cut, the HD consoles will dominate again. This is also the highest the gap has ever been, and could reach over 10 million units by the end of the year.
Gap - 7,153,948 - HD
Check back next month to see if Nintendo drop the bomb and announce a price cut, Sony ramp up move advertising and take the lead or Microsoft continues its dominance with heavy Kinect advertising.

360 and PS3 are hardcore consoles.... and the Wii is um for the rest really... aimed at kids, casuals, gramps... and the extremely loyal to Mario, Zelda Metroid... um Nintendo (first party) games.
Obvious is obvious.
I'm not impressed with MS and Nintendo's commercial success.
You should have waited a week. Next week's numbers would only include 2 days of October sales (or 1 and 3 in EMEAA and Japan) so that week is really part of September. Very curious to see how October will go. I don't think 360 is taking back EMEAA, they'll probably be close to tied next week and then the 160 GB model launches the week after. In regards to HD vs. Wii, 10 million HD lead is probably even slightly conservative. I'd say 11 is more likely with the way things are looking now.
So the 360 pretty much has the exact same lead that it had when the PS3 launched.
I don't know why there is a HD (Twin) vs Wii gap. That's pretty hilarious. Xbox 360 Gap is going to grow and grow come November. With almost 1 million pre-orders for Kinect, including XBox 360 Slim/Kinect bundles, the XBox 360 is going to have some huge sales this holiday. Especially with the bundle being only $299 and including a game. Plus there are still Halo Reach bundles out there as well. How many people what a 'silver' 360 Slim? PS3 will still great as well, but I think it's going to get killed in the U.S.
