Here we have three charts representative of the three main regions as recorded by VGChartz, and a global chart which brings all of the data together. The line on each graph represents the gap in the install base in millions (sales through to consumers), and the title indicates which console is in the lead in the particular region covered.
Americas
360 Lead is 9,189,295
Japan
PS3 Lead is 3,729,547
Others (Europe, Asia, Africa, Ausralasia)

360 v PS3
In the Americas the 360 has slightly improved its lead this month. This would seem to be a bit of an opportunity missed for the PS3. There is no doubting that the PS3 has had a busy month or so of big title releases and yet it has not made a dent in the 360 lead. There have been supply issues and maybe this will result in pent up demand being satisfied during April. We shall see. However, it seems very unlikely that anything is going to dramatically alter the situation in the US.
A stark contrast in the Others and Japan regions where the PS3 has posted some big numbers on the back of recent software releases and without the apparent supply issues. Japan is a done deal in favour of the PS3 and the hard fought Others region continues its swing towards the PS3.
The Global gap chart is now just under 5.5m and another month like this month and we shall see two milestones:
The first milestone will see the PS3 overtake the 360 in Others, where a new chart will be required showing the "PS3 Lead".
The second will be that for the first time the gap between the consoles will be lower than it was when the PS3 launched nearly three and a half years ago. The gap back in November 2006 was 5,433,893 and is now 5,496,286.
HD v Wii
The Wii performance seems to be settling down after some volatile performance earlier this year perhaps in the face of US supply issues. However, the level that it has settled at is lower than the combined HD consoles and so the gap continues to grow. The PS3 performance may fall back a little over the coming months and this may help the Wii turn the tide.

^That really shows how bad the PS3 has done this generation, it is now only just starting to make up the gap after 3 and a half years!
PS3 does well
My favorite column, as usual. Nice work.
Woah !
It seems like The Clony Station is target the number one !
Come on Ninty ! You can clean the floor with your Mighty Wii !
Ops, it seems like they will never make it X_X
Poor Clony, may be they should target the PSP sales :D
PD: Joking, i m just working hard today : (
I close my eyes and i can only see numbers, i just needed to troll a little bit : P
replacement units for RROD 360 should not be counted as "units sold" and should be subtracted from all time 360 figures...
What is keeping the NPD from releasing any official numbers for 360 replacement units or 360 or have they already?
Correct me if I am wrong, as of Jan 2010 NPD still haven't released official 2009 numbers for the 360 only for Wii and PS3.
Where is the Wii vs 360 and Wii vs PS3 chart?
PS3 and 360 are SEPERATE consoles!!
It's pretty obvious PS3 has taken over japan and Others.
US is a bit weird though as it swings here and there, but it seems the 360 has settled down as the winner there.
PS3 is the BMW of gaming
while the Wii is the Toyota of gaming
how do you compare that?
i like how the ps3 and the 360 have to be combined to beat the wii. lol.
big milestones indeed next month!
@kitler:
Thanks for saving me the effort to type all that myself... ;)
360 vs ps3 chart is going down, the hd twins vs. wii chart is going up. i'm a pretty happy camper these days. xD
good work kowenicki - with all the adjustments i'm guessing it's quite a bit of work keeping these charts up to day.
Good job as usual Kowenicki. I think we shall see the PS3 overtake Xbox 360 in others next week.
Guess 2010 will be a better year than 2009 xD
