Xbox Live Arcade Sales - Week Ending 1/12/07 - News

'Omega 5' Has a good debut thanks to Japanese sales, while movie/arcade classic 'Tron' moves decently.
1/12/08 - By Benjamin Schlichter
In the first full week of 2008, numbers showed a strong hold from last week, despite hard-copies of game sales decreasing. Overall market sales strayed strong thanks to newer title Metal Slug 3 taking 1st place with an estimated 7,000 units sold.
Also noteworthy is the appearent drop of December favorites 'Arkadian Warriors' and 'The Sensible World of Soccer'. Both titles continued to drop, but maintain top-10 placing on the soldthrough charts (ie, not counting freebies, and Arcade Pack-ins).
Omega Five's 6,000 estimated units sold is no pushover - Omega's maker, Hudson, should be thanking the Japanese XBL users, as they were responsible for much of the initial downloads of the game. However, sales did taper off on the Japanese side of the sales, and leveled off to roughly 15% of all downloads for the game.
Final notables on the chart is the fact that I've overhauled the look, making it (hopefully) easier to read, with major-selling titles highlighted for easy reading.
Not only this, but I worked with extrapolation methods on games A through F. Roughly 80% of all games are very typical with their rate of achievement unlocking, and can be easily tracked. However, those 20% of games that have difficult achievements, can vastly change the sales of given games. I devised a method of figuring these sales out, by observing the new way Microsoft tracks gamercard tracking, and modifying the new results to reflect my findings. Most of the modified games showed achievements being unlocked at about 50% of the rate of normal games. Most notably would be Ecco the Dolphin and Asteroids/Deluxe (about 3x more LTD units sold). Others recieved increases of 20-40% in overall LTD. I will continue to reflect these changes as I have the time to track the way these games are sold.
Note: Chart was updated/modified on 1/16/08 - Yaris LTD was screwed up.

The numbers for Track and Field are messed up for the lifetime bit, it should be more like $745,000 based on lifetime sales of 149,115, not $5,902 :-)
That would be fantastic, it would make very interesting reading
Well, the issue with doing a new release/best seller list by month is 1, and only 1 thing:
I don't get sales by regions. I get it by country - more than 30 to be exact.
If I did this by each game, it'd be a killer, because I'd have to get sales numbers for over 3,300 per update.
However, I could easily do one for new releases on a monthly basis, since it would only involve about 5-7 games a month (or 150-210 entries).
It would be good to see a periodic breakdown of new releases and best sellers by region. (Monthly?)
with the new shootem ups coming to XBLA the 360 seems to be gaining a niche market in Japan, I have noticed that Omega 5's leader board is littered with Japanese games
This is just a suggestion I realise it would be a pain in the a**.
Anyway keep up the good work
No idea about sales for XB Orig.
As for region sales - just let me know - I can give you any number LTD, for any region.
It is interesting to read that you can tell how games are selling in each region.
It would be great to see more info on that.
Plus any idea how the Xbox originals are selling?
Boogie Bunnies is the game that's coming out this week. Go to:

Glad to see Omega Five and Metal Slug 3 to sell so well. Especially MS3 mainly because it shouldn't cost 800 points to begin with. I bought both games so whatever, they were worth it even if I own MS3 for XB and MS Anthology for the PS2 too lol.
That color legend is very helpful and useful, thanks.
Nah, its fine. I want to answer every question so everyone can be on the same page.
Besides, I always wondered exactly how fast the MGC servers are vs. actual leaderboards.
In other news, Omega 5 has actually increased sales, along with everything else considerably - in 2 days (Sat. afternoon through Monday morning), it's already doubled it's sales. If this keeps up, Omega 5 will easily hit 15k for the next week, or more. Even Tron and others have already hit last week's LTD numbers. I have no idea what's caused all of this, but sales will be huge next week.
Sorry if I jumped the gun, but just wondering if your figures were right, thanks for the explanation
I love checking out all things 360 and as an XBLA player the sales figures are very interesting to me.
I look forward to reading your future charts.
Madman - it's perfectly fine. I'd rather have numbers incredibly scrutinized to achieve more accuracy rather than me live in a dream world, to where my numbers are frivilous and made up.
As for the XBLA game of the week - I haven't heard any news about the next game.
What is the XBLA game to be released this week??
Great job! You must get frustrated with impatient posters ever so keen to point out perceived innacuracies...Common sense is not very common nowadays...Appreciate the hard work :)
I haven't found anything from MS about Uno selling a million - I've read that Uno has had 1m+ downloads, but MS never has said Uno has sold 1m.
Aegis Wings has around 1m players on the leaderboards currently, but MS has stated as of September, Aegis Wings was > Uno. Therefore, I don't see how Uno has had a whole lot more than what I'm showing.
As for Omega Five having 16k on the leaderboards - that's about 24hrs after I had tabulated the sales. I re-checked Omega 5's sales via my sources, and guess what? Omega 5 has moved quite a few of those units you argue in discrepancy.
And you must remember: my numbers are constantly being updated from the MGC servers. HOWEVER, and this is critical - there is a delay on new releases. The numbers are updated only as quickly as the severs go. Therefore, newer games' numbers are going to lag behind leaderboard actuals for atleast the first few days. However, given a few days, they will even out.
Reason I say it is this - I've checked Omega 5's sales since Wednsday, when it came out, numbers look like this:
Wednsday - 240 by 1000GMT
Thursday - 2,400 by 1000GMT (+2,160)
Friday - 3,600 by 1000GMT (+1,200)
Saturday - 6,000 by 1000 GMT (+2,400)
Sunday - 8,700 by 1500GMT (+2,700)
So it takes time for the severs to update. Are my numbers a bit low? Absolutely. But give it a week for the numbers to come in for 10 days - you'll find the leaderboards vs. my numbers to be alot closer, since the servers have had proper time to update. I used to weight my numbers to counteract this, but I don't anymore due to not wanting to overestimate numbers.
NeoRATT - I wouldn't be suprised if we started seeing 2-3 XBLA games per week on a very, very regular basis. There are tons of huge games coming out within the next few weeks (Load Runner, Ikargura, Rez HD, Poker Smash) and more. And that doesn't count the el-cheapo 400MSP games like Tron and Tempest.
Omega 5 is brilliant.
BTW I think there is a problem with your figures.
There are 16000 gamers on the Omega 5 leader board as of now Sunday 12th, yet you have sales of 6026 something does not add up.
Also UNO has sold over a million according to MS and even your own chart had it a over a million a few weeks ago.
Makes me wonder how many other mistakes there are.
Ooooooooooooo... New format... Nice...
Metal Slug 3 had a nice start...
Lot's of new titles for XBLA have been announced and previewed over the last couple weeks. It will be interesting to see how they do when released!
I tried the Omega 5 demo and wasn't very impressed. I love shooters and this one looks great...but my favorite part in shooter games is dodging enemy bullets. The characters here are just too big and clunky. But I hope they break even at least for trying something old school...
Omega 5 is great, everyone with a 360 should check it out.
Decent sales this week , MS3 has some great sales :D
900,000 $
good ..
If my company can gain over 2m$ from games like these ..
I would be very happy
Lifetime to date.
