'Sensible World of Soccer' scores a goal in it's sophmore session, while newcomer 'Spongebob Squarepants: Underpants Slam!' has a mediocre start
December 29th, 2007
Despite starting off to a rocky first few days due to the wrong version of the game being pulled and replaced 2 days later, Codemaster's The Sensible World of Soccer shook off the controversy, and scored a huge goal it's first full week on the charts, garnering an estimated 15,000 units of sales it's first full week. Even though the charts are still in their infancy, these numbers are the highest any game has recorded being sold for a full week - only free downloads have done better.
While SWOS was garnering all of the attention for it's blistering week, Sierra Online's Arkadian Warriors , Xbox Live's first RPG continued it's strong sales, selling another estimated 13,000 units - a slight increase from last week.
However, this week's only new title, a Spongebob Squarepants game (a favorite cartoon in the United states) started rather weakly, with an estimated 1,400 units sold. Despite being released the week of Christmas, children tended to buy other big games with any newly-recieved points cards. Although Spongebob cannot be considered a poor showing ($14,000 in 3 days isn't something to laugh at), sales will most likely follow in the pattern of fellow cartoon-turned game Shrek 'N' Roll, which is at $66,000 LTD revenue.
In other news, some games are "missing" from the charts. That is, no, or negative sales were recorded via the methods I use for sales. These charts are based, and compiled off of Mygamercard.net achievement traffic. Since Mircosoft implemented the new tracking systems, some gamers have most likely deleted low-scoring games they have, removing them from the charts. However, numbers were not impacted severly (the most removed game was Mutant Storm Reloaded, with ~175 cards removed). Sales for these games will continue to be tracked.

Garcian - I really like Arkadian Warriors. It's a great example of a good (but definately not perfect) hack-n-slash game.
For $10, it's a must-buy. Decent bit of depth in classes, fun random dungeon crawling, neat magics, and such.
Will be itneresting to see how this develops for Xbox...there's ALOT of great programmers out there, as the modding community can attest to on the PC, and given the similiarities...it's going to be a bright future. Like Garcain said, how's Arkadian?
How good is Arkadian Warriors, anyway? Most reviewers slammed it for being a Diablo II clone, but I love those simplistic Diablo-style games...

According to Microsoft, the average XBLA title, in one year of sales, makes on average 156% of it's revenue back. Therefore, whatever it cost to make it - it sells that well plus 50% more in one year.
Also, I've been looking at a few XBLA charts, and I will be editing a few LTD numbers in a few weeks. Uno is a bit high (Aegis Wings is the most-downloaded title to date, not Uno), and a few others are slightly off, atleast in the positioning.
aye, when you think about how little a title costs to develop for xbox live arcade, i'm sure many of these make a pretty handsome profit. And if they don't, it wasn't a huge loss for the company.
1M $ per week is very good I think ,,
What about "XBOX orginal" ?
TO clerk: Yeah right on man! Rip-Off!!! Power to the PEOPLE!!!!
No DUDE, GOLD is GREAT service and an excellent value. I am more than happy to pay my $1 per week to play against others online.
Think about it next time you buy a $4 can of your favorite energy drink. That's a month of XBOX LIVE GOLD you're chugging bunky! Talk about a rip-off, lol!
i'm really looking forward to Streed Fighter HD and REZ HD...must buy is you have an x360 for me.
Gold is a rip-off.
Spongebob only released in the USA and Canada, till today
I can't believe how good Uno does every week... I need to make a game like that.
Gold is sweet!

In order to play others ONLINE, you have to have Xbox Live Gold. Your X360 comes with a free 1 month trial of it. Also, you can easily find free 2-day passes on the intenet.
However, you can play any XBLA game offline with others (if applicable) without any sort of silver or gold account. But if you want to play online, you need gold.
so my brother just got an xbox 360 for xmas and I was interested in picking up carcassone and catan. However, he doesn't have xbox live gold or whatever. Does that mean I'm SOL when it comes to playing other people?
elendar - I wonder the same thing. If they ever made Risk, Monopoly, and other such board games, they'd do very well in the US.
Heck, if Carcassonne, and Catan can do $1m+, despite being virtual unknowns in the US....Risk could do $5m+
Also, a D&D Board game would be great too.
Im happy that Arkadian Warriors and Carcassonne are selling well. I hope for more rpgs and strategy games to be released. Where is Risk??
Wow look at all those old games, makes me feel all warm and tingly. Man somebody needs to bring back Kid Icarus!
Good for Arkadian Warriors and SWOS. I'm really happy for Arkadian though. Original games that are good should sell.
Nice sales for Sensible Soccer indeed ... well the game deserves it :)
