Xbox 360 v PS3
Here we have three charts representative of the three main regions as recorded by VGChartz, and a global chart which brings all of the data together. The line on each graph represents the gap in install base in millions (sales through to consumers), and the title indicats which console is in the lead in the particular region covered.
Americas
Japan
Others (Europe, Asis, Africa, Australasia)
Global
HD Consoles (360 + PS3) vs Wii
For the Wii to reach 50% market share the graph line must drop below zero
Commentary
We have a new trend almost everywhere.... the PS3 continues to make significant inroads to the 360 lead in Others and Globally.
The turnaround in Others and the sustained high sales in Japan have caused a marked difference to the Global chart. The turnaround is now looking more impressive than what the 360 managed in a similar period last year.
The Others gap chart will likely be a "PS3 Lead" chart by the end the year.
The effect is far less dramatic in the Americas and despite the recent out performance here it looks as though the 360 will certainly hang on to a very substantial lead. The holiday period in the Americas (particularly the U.S.) will be a hard fought battle.
The gap between the Wii and the HD twins increased again this month despite the Wii price drop. The substantial increased in PS3 sales being the primary reason. It seems unlikely that the Wii will achieve the 50% market share of total install base.... although a handy holiday performance can change that so easily.
November is a huge month for console sales. Black Friday is approaching and some big numbers will be posted in the U.S. as a consequence... for all three consoles.
The charts may look very different again when I report back in a few weeks time.

That 8-9 mln. x360 lead in NA, i dont know, PS3 will have to outsell x360 by 40k on average every week, and 1 mln. every Christmas for next 3 years. 2010-2011-2012 Only then, there is a slim chance to catch x360. Will: God of War 3, AGENT, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5, The Last Guardian, FFXIII versus, FFXIV, Quantum Theory enough to achieve that? Thats a big question.
Japan, well, i can see a 10 mln. lead for PS3 over x360 when PS3 stops selling.
Same for Others/Europe.
Looking forward November-December sales, this will be very interesting.
About Wii, in next 10 weeks it need to outsell PS360 by 300k, and selling 800k every week for the rest of year. Well, it`s just not hapenning.
Wow, this is a nice way to break it down. Others will be a good battle, USA will be dominated by 360, Japan will be dominated by PS3. Seems this generation is set.
There's almost no way PS3 can ever come back in America...I've known this for a long time. For example, 360 was 7M+ in the lead of NPD. That means PS3 would have to outsell 360 by an average of 200,000 a month for 36 months straight (three years) to take the lead. Yet even in Slim's first month and drop to 299 last month, PS3 "only" beat 360 by 140,000.
Others will soon be taken by PS3. I doubt Americas ever will...
I like how the only consolation HD fans have in the HD vs. Wii battle is that the Wii most probably not reach 50% market share.
Just goes to show how dominant the console is.

By the current trend, PS3 will outsell 360 within one year and a bit.
i doubt this trend will continue for long, though. But considering Sony's biggest releases of their whole gen will come next year (Final Fantasy XIII, which sell way more PS3 copies, God of War III, Heavy Rain, and of course Gran Turismo 5, it seems possible.
But then again MS willl likely drop the price of the 360 to counter it. it will be certainly a interesting year 2010.

I'm sorry but as of now the PS3 is outselling the 360 consistently in America, I don't see why that's going to change just because of the holidays. PS3 will take all 3 regions.

This holiday season will be crazy. In terms of HD battle PS3 will easily take Others&Japan but the NA looks like a free for all, I thought the 360 would be over the PS3by now there but it still leading I guess will see if and what MW2 can do for the 360 because after that there is nothing there but the yearly Christmas boost.
Wow the Europe/Others chart for PS3 vs 360 is insane. From August to September 2009 the 360's lead drops substantially.

I like the 360 v PS3 graph of Americas. It looks the most consistent, the 360 there has made its distance by huge chunks at a time, thanks to larger holiday boosts. I guess this holiday will be the only exception?

The 360 is holding out relatively well in America. It should be pretty much neck and neck between the HD twins in NA this holiday.
