First DSi-Only Games Launch at Retail This Fall - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 31 August 2009 / 2,955 ViewsKotaku is reporting that Nintendo is going to release complete DSi exclusive titles later this year. This would mark the first time that DSi has gotten an exclusive game outside of DSiWare. Here are some of the details.
Software that will only work on a Nintendo DSi will join titles playable on a Nintendo DS or DS Lite but also feature DSi-specific enhanced capabilities, like Ubisoft's Jam Sessions 2 and My Healthy Cooking Coach. Games and apps that will only be playable on a DSi will be visually distinct from past product, sources say.
Those DSi-only games will be packaged in all-white game cases, making them stand out from the standard dark gray cases of currently available Nintendo DS games. Those cases will sport a warning that the software is only compatible with the Nintendo DSi. DSi-only game cards themselves will use a similar white plastic, but it's unclear if those re-colored cards will have any difficulty fitting into a DS or DS Lite cartridge slot.
Check Kotaku for more on the subject. We'll update if more information pops up.

ChichiriMuyo, that isn't the point. I'm fine with buying a new gaming system - the NES, SNES, PS1, and PS2 each have significant upgrades on their predecessor.
The NDS and the DSi, not so much. The fact that it's taking this long to release its on exclusive games should tell you something. Hell, this website tracks the sales together.
Again, as long as the exclusive games are exclusive for good reason (CAMERA), I wouldn't mind.
Oh. My. God. I might actually have to buy a new gaming system after five years? Why in god's name would I want to do that? You guys who just got your DSLs recently should band together with everyone who bought a PS2 in 2005, a PS1 in 1999, an SNES in 1995, and an NES in 1990. Then you can all complain together about the fact that, yes, even popular hardware is going to get replaced a few years down the line by something more capable.
Really, if you didn't see this coming from a mile away you're blind. The day it was revealed that the DSi had more powerful hardware was the day this became an obvious inevitability. If you bought a DSl after the DSi was announced it's your own fault.

"The whole GBC BS was what kept me from buying another handheld for ten years."
Its why I skipped buying a DSLite. I didn't do anything that drastic, I bought the original DS when it came out at launch, but when the DSLite came out, I skipped it, knowing something like the DSi would come along eventually.
Did Nintendo really say they were working on an exclusive DSi game like Mario or Pokemon?
If they made games DSi exclusive without some compelling reasons (camera focused games), it would piss off a ton of DSL owners, including myself (bought the system just under a year ago).
I think the traditional, core games will continue to be playable on all NDS, while DSi gets the DSiWare / camera game goodies. If I'm wrong, and Nintendo puts out a DSi exclusive Mario next year... Well, I won't be happy.
@Kenryoku_Maxis: true and it's most likely going to be the next iterations of Pokemon. Nintendo did that in the past to push the GBC.
Ugh. My DSL is barely a year old. This is so annoying.
The whole GBC BS was what kept me from buying another handheld for ten years. This is the same thing all over again. Why must they force us to buy a new handheld for marginal improvements?
Drawn To Life: Camera edition would be awesome I would love to play as myself.
Cool! I want a game that interacts with the camera!
I'm sure it'll get marginal support, but it will really take off once Nintendo themselves make a game that supports it, such as a Mario or Pokemon game, which they have already said they are working on. Methinks they're going to make a WarioWare or Pokemon game for the DSi exclusive for sometime early next year. For all we know, the WarioWare DSiWare game might have just been a holdover prototype for the real WarioWare DSi game in production.
I personally am still on the fence. I know that it could be great for the DS to have 'upgraded' games, just like GBColor did (beyond just the Color enhancements). Personally, I would love something like a new Dragon Quest Monsters or some new IP using the enhanced processing power of the DSi.
@ Darth you missed the point, which is that the PSP 3000 and below has games that the Go will never get. Sony already said not all games will be available for download. In other words they should be separate systems by that standard.
IMO I think it's a very ill-defined border between things like the GB and GBC and the DS sand DSi. Heck even the Go and 3000. They are adding slight features without making major hardware changes.
If you count one separate you'll have to count all separate, including the PSP Go.
Isn't Idol M@ster: Dearly Stars the DSi game to be released?
I also heard that DSi games are region locked. That sucks if it's true.
I was really pissed when I bought a DS car charger a couple weeks back only to find it was a DSi car charger and not compatible with the DS Lite. /random rant
I agree with carl
oh & PSP GO! won't ever have seperate games from the Fat PSP-3000 & obese PSP-1000
@Naz
Sure. Why not? I think if a platform has its own exclusive games, it should be counted as a seperate platform all together.
I agree with naznatips, if you count the DSi separately then you count the PSP Go separately.
Not saying that I like the idea of unique DSi software. I think DSi software should have new features but still offer their core gameplay on the older systems.
Speaking of new features, will these DSi games have improved graphics outside of the cameras and SD support etc? Since the processors are quite a bit faster, I was hoping for better graphics.
Then should the PSP be counted separately from the PSP Go? After all not all PSP UMD games are going to be available for download on the Go, so they are different systems then right?
While I only own a DS Lite I would sill like to see a good push for some quality DSi only games. The DS is pretty old by now so hopefully devs can push the new DSi a little harder thanks to the increased memory and processor speed. Hope they open the gates with something sweet, probably won't though in fear of fragmenting their user base.
THIS is why i say DSi should be counted seperately to DS/DSlite
I don't think there will be too many games in this lineup. Just like the Game Boy Color.
this sucks i bought my ds light recently don't want to but another handheld so soon.
I hope they don't relase too many exclusive games... i want my DS lite!
The DS is damn near five years old, so this isn't too surprising.
noooooo, I just got a DS Lite 2 months ago
Good thing I got my dsi I wonder what the games will be? I hope it is something awesome!
