The Official PlayStation blog revealed the release date for the pet Sim, Eyepet:

EyePet will be available in stores across North America beginning on November 17 for $39.99. For those of you who don’t have a PlayStation Eye, we will be offering a special bundle for $59.99, which will include EyePet and the PS Eye.

If you aren’t familiar with EyePet, it’s basically all the fun of owning a pet without the mess! Featuring next generation augmented reality, EyePet delivers an interactive lifelike, virtual pet right into your own living room using the PS Eye. He will respond and relate to movements in your own world. Pet him, and he will purr. Tickle him and he will laugh. Roll a ball to him and he will chase it. You get the point.

EyePet is also customizable, letting you modify fur length, color and pattern, as well as the ability to outfit your pet with more than 250 unique collectible items. Using the included “Magic Card,” owners can also bring drawings and objects to life by simply sketching things like an airplane or car, and make them your pet’s own three-dimensional toy.

Yeah I don't own a PS3 and though I wouldn't get this if I did I still think it looks like a very cool use of AR and is really a cool idea. More than I can say about a lot of games I don't want. I think it is a little narrow minded to insult this: it's a very fun cool unique and seemingly well executed idea. Just because I don't own a PS3 and prefer Wii/PS3, I don't think that means I need to act like even good ideas on the other systems suck, like tons of people do.

If Sony can advertise this just right it can really sell. Like put commercials of these during cartoon breaks on Saturday mornings and afterschool times.

I don't see this game selling well at all.

Also, the monkey/thing looks too weird for me.

Doesnt appeal at all to me but
Will most likely be the top selling 'game' for the ps3
10 million is definitely achievable

@ rover

It's just like Nintendogs but more interactive. At least 22,67 million of people liked that game.

A good way to get the Eye into homes before the wand releases. A pretty sweet deal getting the Eye + game for $60. I think here the Eye alone costs the same as a new release game.

I think they should have included this on firmware 3.0 for free.

I think the little monkey is cute personally and I was caught off guard at how cool the feature set in the game actually are. The dozens of video's I have seen demonstrate the uniqueness that this title offers. First day sale for me as well. Most of the people talking it down either do not own a PS3 (envy) or just have never seen the full demonstration.

@ rover: have you even played this? this was just plain fun. At Gamescom, it was said it was geared towards 6 to 12 year olds and everyone around the stand were 20 /30 / 40 year olds giggling at what the creature could do and what you could do with it.

It's not because YOU don't like it, that it automatically sucks.

Uhhhh interesting........I do like the pricing though. $59.00 for new adopters, however, I find that my daughter might get bored with it rather quick. I will probably snag it for her for the holiday regardless.

Wow... that whole experience looks... awkward.
Hopefully, whoever purchases EyePet enjoys their 4 and 1/3 minutes of fun before putting it up on the shelf forever.
