Borderlands Series Sales Top 100 Million Units

Borderlands Series Sales Top 100 Million Units - Sales

by William D'Angelo , posted 3 hours ago / 422 Views

Publisher 2K and developer Gearbox Software announced the Borderlands franchise has sold over 100 million units lifetime.

"The Borderlands franchise has officially crossed 100 million units sold!" reads the announcement. "There aren't many franchises that have ever hit that milestone, and we certainly didn't get here on our own. For us, it started with that first Borderlands in 2009, and we’ve been excited about everyone who has joined us in the Borderlands along the way."

Read the announcement post below:

Thank You

It’s hard to believe it’s been just more than 12 months since Borderlands 4 launched and you all first set foot on Kairos. Everything we create has you at its core. You are why we fight.

We know how passionate you are about Borderlands, and it’s been a blast to bring you the first year of post-launch content for Borderlands 4, including two Story Packs, five Bounty Packs, two new Vault Hunters, and a number of new features and activities. You are why we get up everyday and handcraft the mayhem. Your joy and happiness and surprise and delight - your entertainment - is our purpose, our mission, and the sole reason why we’re here. And you step up in incredible ways. Starting November 6th, Borderlands players will be participating in The Hunt. Earlier this year, this long-standing community fundraising event generated a record-breaking $118,995.80 USD to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in its mission to treat and cure childhood diseases. This time, we have a challenge for you: 2K Foundations, the driving force behind 2K’s social impact, and Gearbox will match every dollar donated to The Hunt up to last year’s record amount, potentially raising more than $230,000 for St. Jude. So get in there and donate!

And we've got some other pretty big news: the Borderlands franchise has officially crossed 100 million units sold! There aren't many franchises that have ever hit that milestone, and we certainly didn't get here on our own. For us, it started with that first Borderlands in 2009, and we’ve been excited about everyone who has joined us in the Borderlands along the way.

Borderlands has always had an incredibly passionate community. We’ve been through a lot together, and your feedback pushes us to make even greater games.

Thank you!

What's Next

We just wrapped our Year 1 roadmap, and the team is cooking hard on more Borderlands 4 content for next year.

As always, Weekly Activity refreshes and Community Challenges will continue. But we’re also taking a bigger look at the franchise as a whole. Where can we take it next? What characters do you want to spend more time with? What stories deserve a payoff? A huge part of that is listening to you. Keep the conversation going - we're listening. Tell us what you think! Share your thoughts with us on social and tune into the Gearbox Devcast. We’re always responding to community feedback on that show.

All that said, big plans take time, and we need some room to work. You can trust that we’ll talk more when the time is right. Now is your chance to influence what we’ll say. We’re listening and we’re working hard for you. Thanks for being with us in the Borderlands.

That's a lot of copies, especially for a series that doesn't have all that many games in it.
