Tekken 8 game director Kohei Ikeda in June left Bandai Namco after 20 years at the company. He has now announced he has joined the new SNK-owned studio VS Studio, which is led by former Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada.

"I've joined VS Studio as the next step in my journey," said Ikeda.

"Working on games again with two of my former bosses feels nostalgic in many ways, while at the same time, the excitement of creating something completely new makes every day incredibly fulfilling. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can create together!"

It isn't known what VS Studio is developing, however, it is likely a fighting game similar to Tekken.

So, SNK hoping to make a rival to Tekken now? I mean, it's welcome, 3D fighters are seemingly a rare breed now.

Bandai Namco won't be happy.

But it's understandable. Creative people want to work on more than one franchise in their careers, and he may have found himself at that point were another Tekken was no longer exciting or interesting.
