Switch 2 vs Switch 1 Sales Comparison in the US - January 2026 - Sales

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in the US and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

January 2026 is the 8th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in the US. During the latest month, the Switch 1 has outsold the Switch 2 by 116,548 units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is ahead of the Switch 1 by 2.01 million units.
The 8th month for the Switch 2 is January 2026, while for the Switch 1 it is October 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 4.62 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 2.61 million units during the same timeframe.
The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 48.78 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 44.16 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

The switch 1 should continue closing the gap for the next 2 months going into its holiday season.
From here on out, I think the Switch 1 will beat Switch 2 almost every month.
It'll probably be pretty back and forth for now. Since the holiday periods don't line up the switch 2 should beat the switch at least 3 months of the year.
So, in 2 months the Switch will be at 4,887,477, and it looks like the Switch 2 will be ~5m.
Looking at the 2018 Switch numbers it looks like we could potentially see a cross this year unless there is an upswing in Switch 2 sales(which I expect there to be, but maybe not in time)
