Read details on the game below:

God of War Sons of Sparta is a 2D action platformer with a canon story set in Kratos’ youth during his harsh training at the Agoge alongside his brother Deimos.

From the writing team at Santa Monica Studio that brought you God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök, Sons of Sparta is a tale of duty, honor, and brotherhood featuring TC Carson who reprises his role the first time in over a decade as the adult version of Kratos, our story’s narrator!

God of War’s kinetic combat has found a home in a brand-new genre. Kratos will learn deadly skills using his spear and shield, as well as harness powerful divine artifacts known as the Gifts of Olympus to take on a wide array of foes. Sons of Sparta features the return of iconic classics recreated in 2D with stunning hand-drawn pixel animation, as well as a host of new creatures to the franchise inspired by the rich, untapped facets of Greek mythology brought to life by the retro experts at Mega Cat Studios.

Some very pretty 2D pixel art. Gameplay wise? Looks kinda avg... nothing screams special here.

Shocked how much more appealing the new Castlevania game looks.

in terms of art? That has to be a joke.... its low quality 3D assets seen from the 2D perspective and looks kinda ugly. In terms of looks atleast, This 2D God of war - Sons of Sparta looks alot better.

Personally I disagree. I love pixel art, but this just does not look nice to me at all. Castlevania look visually a lot nicer to me.

Sprite art has been done thousands of times better for these kind of games. Especially the character/monster models

I wouldn't say it looks as good as the best modern pixel art from studios like The Game Kitchen but i would say it is better than the majority of them there's nothing that stands out as bad.

What the hell are you going on about now? Xbox didn't invent shadow dropping games or the concept in general. Hell, Sega did it in 1995 with the Saturn. Bethesda did it with Fallout Shelter in 2015 and there are probably lots of other examples that I am not even going to list. The point is, take your sour grapes out of the Sony God of War article. Oh and just for shits and giggles, this gen MS added the share button to their controller and Phil Spencer loves the DS's haptic feedback. So you're welcome.

Too bad the 2 player co-op only opens up after you beat the game.
