It's a bit worrying that both the series x and ps5 are unlikely to outsell there last gen counterparts. Seems the console market is starting to shrink.

Not worrying for Sony. PlayStation is more profitable than ever and confidence in the brand is at an all time high. When GTA 6 launches all this "console market is shrinking" nonsense will very quickly go away.

That's mainly due to milking every cent they can from customers like you and selling games on pc and other platforms. The xbox is down massively and playstation rather than going up is also down. Personally I'm pretty done with most consoles and will likely be moving towards pc in the next few years.

milking every cent? Console is now much cheaper than the competitors equivalent (XBSX). Subscription service is cheaper than Xbox's. Games are still 70$ while Nintendo has a game at 80/90$ and Xbox tried to release outer worlds 2 at 80$. Doesn't sound like milking every cent to me.

Other companies being greedy does not take away from sony being greedy. A lot of sonys games have various deluxe editions that add elements that should already be in the base game. They were leading the charge on increasing console prices after launch. The subscription doesn't have day 1 games like the Xbox equivalent, they know they can get a lot of there biggest fans to pay for a subscription plus buy all of there games full price. The ps5 pro being sold for €800 without a disc drive. Psvr2 being sold for €600 at launch and being abandoned almost immediately. Ps portal over €200 for a screen. Downgrading the storage in ps5 slim without lowering the price.
Sony is not your friend and them like every other company only care about getting your money. Where do you think these record breaking profits are coming from when they are selling less consoles and releasing less games.

"Sony is not your friend". This is just so nonsensical it's hard to reply to. Of course they're not. Nintendo, Sony, MS and Steam are business that exist solely to make a profit. They are not charities. If you like gaming, We still have to choose between one of them though regardless of whether they are out friends or not. PS5 wouldn't have sold 80 million if they're business practices were as bad as you are suggesting but it doesn't matter. It's not like the PlayStation business depends on having the VGChartz community as customers.

It's not nonsensical, since you seem to have an undying devotion to sony and defend everything they do.
Apple is one of the most anti consumer companies around and are one of the biggest companies in the world. So selling 80 million doesn't mean they have pro consumer business practices.
Just look at the switch 2, they definitely have had plenty of anti consumer issues with it, yet it just had the biggest console launch in history. Anti consumer business practices do not necessarily equal bad sales.

"undying devotion" I live in Europe. Xbox is practically non existent here. Switch 2 has too many technical limitations. If you like console gaming the PlayStation is the ONLY option. Using your only option is not undying devotion. Why is this so hard for people to understand on this website?

Because you spend most of your time on here thrashing everything that isn't sony, and defending every single thing sony does.

Everyone has been giving Xbox a thrashing for their decisions recently, not just me. Who wants to pay 800$ for a XBSX and 30$ a month for Gamepass? No-one, and everyone is letting MS know that. Their thrashing is fully deserved. Nintendo is struggling to get Borderlands 4 and Elden ring on Switch 2 so if your interested in big AAA titles Switch 2 isn't for you.

Sony is the ONLY option for high end console gaming, it's got nothing to do with praising or bashing. They are the ONLY option

Fromsoftware and gearbox are struggling. Even Ubisoft is making incredible ports for the Switch 2, so ER and BL4 are a dev problem, not a platform problem.

  • +1

FromSoft were capable enough to get it running on a base Xbone though? Do you realise how weak and underpowered the Xbone was in 2022 when elden ring launched?

  • 0

Well, Capcom wasn't competent enough to get SF6 running on XSS as good as it does on NS2, either that or NS2 is simply the better hardware. You choose.
But you seem to be forgetting that ER wasn't released yet, we don't know what the final result will be, but we know that NS2 has enough power to run that thing better than Xbone, get out of here with that argument.

  • +1

I was just defending FromSoft from you implying that they are an incompetent studio. Disrespectful and unnecessary IMO. Not trying to argue about the power of the Switch

  • 0

I said that they are struggling, and that ER not running well is a dev problem, that's nothing but the truth, you didn't need to get butthurt.

  • +1

It's a 1.0GHZ ARM CPU with 68GB's bandwidth. I will never blame the devs for struggling to get things working on that. You are the one who is butthurt and trying to defend the switch, not me

Elden ring isn't even out on switch 2 yet at least let them release it before using it as an example. But also Fromsoft are pretty notorious for having poor optimization on most of there games. The best way to get a consistent framerate on ps5 is to play the ps4 version on ps5.

It's funny that you don't even try to counter anything I've said. You were thrashing xbox long before the recent issues, back when it was the same price as the ps5. Again just because there isn't another option for you does not mean that you need to constantly defend everything sony does.
I have owned every sony home console, that doesn't mean I'm not going to call out there bullshit.
You are the most notorious sony fanboy on this site. Even other sony fans think you are a bit too much.

No point criticising a company that has a monopoly on the market. It's a waste of energy. PS5 is priced perfectly fine and I've never had an issue with games being too expensive on the store. Good enough for me

pikashoe Hardstuck-Platinum (on 16 October 2025)

What a nonsensical thing to say. First off they don't technically have a monopoly, second you've been praising and defending literally everything they do for years before xbox completely fell off in the last year or 2. Lets be real they could increase console prices and game prices even more and you'd still praise them. Thirdly of course there is a point in criticising a company with a monopoly.

Well ps5 had 2 years of massive shortages + price increases

CosmicSex xl-klaudkil (on 16 October 2025)

Still PS5 is clearly on track to pass the PS4. I really dont think people are as of yet able to comprehend the imppct that GTA6 has. Its gonna blow everything away. Everything.

Because the difference between the numbers on vgchartz is more than 3 million while the difference between those sent by Sony in the last fiscal report was just over 2 million

DekutheEvilClown jvmkdg (on 15 October 2025)

This does highlight the fact that most older consoles were probably over tracked by about 1m during their lifetime, unless companies only recently started maintaining higher retail stocks or something.
