This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

July 2025 is the 58th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 4 by just 826 units units.
In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.11 million units. The PS5 is currently ahead of the PS4 by 1.37 million units.
The PS5 has sold 26.45 million units in 57 months, while the PS4 sold 25.08 million units. Month 57 for the PS5 is July 2025 and for the PS4 is July 2018.
The PS4 crossed 27 million in month 61 and 30 million in month 71. The PS4 sold 34.93 million units lifetime in the US. The PS5 is 8.48 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in the US.

This comparison will be interesting to follow after the price increase. Hard to say if PS5 will manage to keep its lead.
We probably won't see an impact from the price increase until September. A lot of retailers did not increase the price until this week. So we might even see a boost in August as people rush to buy it before the price increased at stores/online.
Yeah I heard retailers were holding off as long as they could so I wasn't expecting an immediate impact.
It was also on sale in China for the last 2 weeks of August and $70 off all models in Canada for the last 2 weeks as well. So globally in August and quarterly shipments might not take that much of a hit.
I believe that the PS5 should sell about 1 million units in August and September, totaling 80.3 million by September, with a difference of 3 months between units shipped and sold.
