The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.
This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

June 2025 is the 56th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 0.15 million units.
In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.86 million units. The PS4 is currently ahead of the PS5 by 3.21 million units.
The PS5 has sold 77.41 million units in 56 months, while the PS4 sold 80.62 million units. Month 56 for the PS5 is June 2025 and for the PS4 is June 2018.
The PS4 crossed 90 million in month 62, 100 million in month 72, and 110 million in month 79. The PS4 sold 117.20 million units lifetime. The PS5 is 39.79 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales.

Yep. I think the PS5 will sell an extra 10 million in GTA6 year.
I fear that by then, most people who want to play GTA6 on a Playstation already got a PS5, so the hardware sales coming from GTA6 will be lower than some people expect.

At the very least it will sell 5 million extra in the year GTA6 releases. It's more likely around 10 million though
Most people that play GTA only play the online. I think people are overestimating how much GTA 6 will impact Playstation and Xbox sales.
I think people really underestimate how many users are still playing GTAV on a PS4.
Vgchartz is a joke. It always undertrake and over track. The PS5 is far over 77.33 milion. It is 80+ milion or probably 86 milion by now. Only go by official Sony NDP numbers. Not joke Vgchartz.ðŸ¤
the difference between shipped between ps5 and ps4 is 2 million units according to the latest report from sony and vgchartz is 3 million
i wonder if Switch 2 will affect PS5 sales, but PS5 users are another audience so I can be wrong.
yes it will! switch 2 getting some big 3rd party titles and if games like final fantasy released on switch 2 at same time ps5 sales will go down in japan
