The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. That is both impressive and amazing!

I’m guessing if it continues to sell very well in the next coming years then it has a shot at reaching 40+ million lifetime which is a feat PlayStation never reached in the US since the PS2!

playstation is taking market share from xbox but it's hard to tell how much, we dont have the data how many people still playing on xbox one/ps4 and the data for the first time buyers as well.

im thinking the gap should shrink over the year (PS4’18 is gonna be hard to top), though PS5 should certainly come out on top once GTAVI drops.

Pessimistic. PS5 is taking XBSX sales in the US, and the 2018 was the last good year for PS4, PS5 will probably match it, and with GTA 6 on the horizon, the left XB1 sales that are still gonna come in the PS5 basket, and the years ahead turning out to be lot more relevant than 2019 and after that for the PS4, PS5 is having a chance to finish somewhere around the Wii and the 360 in the US at 42M.

yeah ps5 is taking XBSX sales, but (i) PS4Pro was a hot seller that year, whereas PS5Pro is proving not to have the strongest legs in US, (ii) PS4 had GoW, SM, and RDR, whereas PS5 is only confirmed to have MHW and GoY so far, (iii) the US economy was far less flimsy in 2018, and (iv) NSW2 is going to eat up a big chunk of console sales, I’d imagine.

That said, again, I think GTAVI should give it a solid enough boost to ensure it’ll come out on top this year. (p.s. Why we talking about next year and beyond? Never said anything about that…)

I don't know, yes PS4 had all these games, but PS4 has a lot more games in it's life before 2018 too, and yet PS5 beat it every single year except the first.
