Wait wait wait... Why are those numbers a lot smaller than the Famitsu sells?

January 2025 are around 260-300K for Switch and around 80-90K for PS5, depending on how many weeks (4 or 5) you count, by Famitsu numbers.
How is this possible?

Famitsu's week 1 for 2025 is our last week of 2024. That is the reason for the difference.

Dec 30 - Jan 05 that week has 2 days in 2024 and 5 days in 2025. Famitsu counts it as 2025 and Vgcharts as 2024.

understood.
In this case, I prefer Famitsu's methodology.

Could this be another 2 million+ year for the Switch in Japan? PS5 should do 1 million, maybe 1,5, the Xbox could do 50k- 100k but closer to 50k. For Switch 2 its really hard to say. A WiiU/ Vita like flop we can exclude but i guess around 2-3 million minimum for the year, depending on when it launches but it could be more...

Amazing work by Nintendo to claim Japan, very important step to regain control in the dedicated game market and exert better influence. Well done.

Add Monster Hunter for Switch 2 and they'll get nearly 100% of the market in Japan.

When will MH release for PS5/Xbox Series? I somehow have the feeling it could be a launch title... a very wild theory is that Nintendo could hold off the Switch 2 launch to get a GTAVI port and release it day and date to have it as a launch title...
