The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020, while the Xbox One launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

XSX|S Vs. XOne Worldwide:

Gap change in latest month: 1,529,068 - XOne

Gap change over last 12 months: 4,169,709 - XOne

Total Lead: 6,395,450 - XOne

Xbox Series X|S Total Sales: 32,169,659

Xbox One Total Sales: 38,565,109

December 2024 is the 50th month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox One when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 1.53 million units.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox One has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 4.17 million units. The Xbox Series X|S is currently behind the Xbox One by 6.40 million units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 32.17 million units in 50 months, while the Xbox One sold 38.57 million units. Month 50 for the Xbox Series X|S is December 2024 and for the Xbox One is December 2017.

The Xbox One crossed 40 million in month 53, 45 million in month 62, and 50 million in month 71. The Xbox One has sold 57.96 million units lifetime. The Xbox Series X|S is 25.79 million units behind lifetime Xbox One sales.

I thought Series X/S was still under 30m?

I'll say this... if I didn't already have a series x, i would have stayed on the xbox one due to still being able to play series games via xcloud. I remember the first time playing flight sim on my VCR xbox one via streaming and it was pretty damn cool. So i totally see why the series has dropped below the XBO because they dont really do enough to enforce people to adopt the new tech because they make the games easily playable on their existing tech (as well as other means).

And honestly, i love that approach. Its easier for me to play the newer games without having to worry about do i need the newer hardware. I'm less about collecting games like i was when i was younger... now its just about playing and enjoying them in the most convenient ways.
