anybody have ideas on why PS5 performed so much better in November over December?
holidays approaching fast, get it while you can? just a guess
that’s plausible. Another observation worth noting is that (i) NSW & XBSXS suffered a similar downtick in December, and (ii) consoles tend to perform less great during December the older they get (iirc?? ill have to fact check this…).
a little research
Quite simple: PS5Pro. Despite it not being a monsterseller Sony hoped for, its launch numbers boosted PS5 beyond usual numbers because freaks, loyal fans and people who pay anything for new consoles/ Playstation in general got it at launch. After it basically had the whole november its clear that numbers are high. Ah and Black Friday also adds a big part to the cake.
People have a lot of opinions but the answer is simple. The PS5 was on sale in November and it wasn't on sale in December. The sale was supposed to last to December 5th but here in the UK it was over even before that, I think there were stock shortages so the sale got ended early to make sure stock lasted all through December, probably not necessary in the end.
Europe has been a very price sensitive market all generation. It's the region that would benefit the most from a full price cut.
i see. i might dig around a little bit to see what these deals were looking like. That’d be an interesting strat for Sony to discount the base model(s) as they release the eye-wateringly priced $700USD PS5 Pro.
A significant difference. I think price is a factor.
They'll need that GTA VI effect + a price cut to catch up and pass PS4.
If GTA VI does not push the PS5 to expected levels it will downwardstrend will be unavoidable, price cut or not...
Huge efforts this past Xmas, but... it seems PS5 wild not get the PS4 numbers in Europe.
