4 years into the gen, the Wii was like 130$ right? PS5 digital cost 449$ currently.
This is probably the most adequate comparison for the PS5 right now, giving it's sales pace and speed how it's going. The wii will be it's benchmark for the next ~ 2 years.
I feel like with the constant price hike they will not be able to afford to switch to next gen after 7 years and GTA 6 will probably save it from going down too fast. So i do think it will manage to surpass the Wii and probably end at 105-110 millions.
They can't if PS5 stays $400-500. PS6 would be $600-$700 at launch
here we go!
Ps5pro will give some boost to sales and maybe overall ps5 will start catching wii.
No way PS5 Pro is giving a boost - I'd be shocked if it broke 100,000 sales in the first month, to be totally honest.
Speaking positively about the future of PlayStation will get your posts thumbed down. Most people here are Nintendo/Xbox/PC fans. Very few that like Playstation
I'm one of the most PS diehard fans here - but I am still saying that PS5 Pro is not going to move the needle in sales. In terms of graphics, it has very bad marketing: you get to play your games at the quality preset at 60 fps. That - doesn't feel like much. I bought a PS4 Pro on day one because the difference was immense and immediate: playing at 4K checkerboard, compared to 1080p before, was huge. The difference in clarity was easily shown to anyone, including non-gamers.
But that price is what will really hold it back. I would have been willing to pay even $549 for PS5 Pro - remember that PS4 Pro launched at the same $399 as regular PS4 - but $699 for those minimum benefits? Like I said, I would be surprised if it passed 100k in its launch month, which is generally the biggest month of sales for any system.
Benefits with ps5pro will be bigger then with ps4pro because of pssr. Not only more smooth gameplay but better graphics (check new F1 video on digital foundry). Difference is huge and with 60 fps.
(foreword: HP,, I upvoted your comment to knock it out of red. I don’t mean this comment in a hateful manner…just a little passionate is all.)
Hardstuck, no. I speak positively of Nintendo b/c they’re at their highest point ever, I speak positively of Microsoft b/c they’ve got a lot of solid titles planned for next year, I speak neutrally on PC b/c I don’t know anything abt it. PS5 was a very exciting product for me coming off of the PS4, which I considered better than NSW for a period. This generation has not been it for them, and Sony is absolute trash for the moment. They need to stop with this nonstop focus on chasing the most commercially successful games imaginable, and instead focus on making quality experiences. God of War, Horizon Forbidden West, and SM2 all are asset reusing sequels despite being Sony’s big three franchises, all their biggest developers have been relegated to working on live service, multiplayer games (e.g. Horizon, TLoU, Concord), and the only game PS5 has this gen which is truly worth much anything is Astro Bot…four years in. Their hardware figures are falling off a cliff, and it is b/c of this “play it by the most profitable numbers” perspective.
If you want a strong brand, don’t put all your eggs in the basket of shareholders. Sony doesn’t understand this atm, and PS5 is suffering immensely from it. Maybe not from the perspective of short-term profit margins, but as a brand, and from the perspective of hardware figures, they are crashing.
I root for all three console manufacturers. This is a thing called tough love and being realistic: Nintendo sucked from 2008 through 2013, Xbox sucked from 2013 through 2024, and Sony has sucked since 2021 and will likely be stuck this way until they learn that games need not 8y of dev time.
The PS5 will almost 100% catch the Wii, so you're "maybe" is a bit odd. The Wii was a complete outlier in sales pattern, it's not really useful to compare for anything
His comment deserved to be thumbed down 6 times because of the way he used the word "maybe". So, getting downvoted because of his phrasing? That's the strangest justification for a mass downvoting I have ever seen
I imagine it’s more because it’s wildly inaccurate to say the PS5 will maybe start catching the Wii when it’s basically a certainty.
Isn’t the whole point of the system to push good statements to the the top of the page and bad info to the bottom?
Or it's just a load of salty people not wanting PS5 to catch the Wii? Seems a lot more likely to me
