This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox 360.
The Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020, while the Xbox 360 launched in November 2005 in North America and December 2005 in Europe and Japan. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

May 2024 is the 43rd month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox 360 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 172,115 units.
In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 4.32 million units. The Xbox Series X|S is currently behind the Xbox 360 by 1.42 million units.
The Xbox Series X|S has sold 28.74 million units in 42 months, while the Xbox 360 sold 30.16 million units. Month 43 for the Xbox Series X|S is May 2024 and for the Xbox 360 is May 2009.
The Xbox 360 crossed 40 million in month 54, 50 million in month 62, and 60 million in month 73. The Xbox 360 sold 85.73 million units lifetime. The Xbox Series X|S is 56.99 million units behind lifetime Xbox 360 sales.

At one point the Series consoles were nearly 5 million units ahead. Around month 34 sales completely collapsed and then the last holiday was so poor that the ground completely fell from under the Series consoles. Over the next couple of years when sales are aligned, Series won't be able to keep up with the 360. Now through the rest of the generation, 360 will get price cuts as well as millions of the repurchases due to RROD and the like. Series may struggle to get to 40 million.
