It's very impressive that PS5 keeps increasing its lead in the US, considering how much cheaper PS4 was at this point.
Xbone was a much better match for PS4 than the XBSS is for the PS5. I know the XBSX exists too but that is not their main platform, the S is. So, there are quite afew Xbox owners converting to PS5 I think
A recent sales article said Series S is selling almost as well as Series X. It's close but the X is the main.
It's not about sales it's about how MS themselves see it. The S is the main console that gets developed for first, and then they improve resolution/performance of that version for the X. The S is the main platform of development
By that logic, the main is PC since their games release for PC's with lower specs than the S.
Not true. XBSS only have 8GB of usable RAM for games. Tell me one PC game of theirs (since the XBSS launched) on PC that requires less than 8GB of RAM
RAM isn't the main spec devs target. That's usually the GPU, or sometimes the CPU.
RAM is absolutely the main spec they target. It determines the entire size and scale of the game. GPU and CPU determine how good it looks and runs + whether it is 30fps or 60
PC's with 8GB of RAM don't have all 8GB usable for games so they are lower spec.
Not true because you have to add the Video RAM from the Graphics card. The XBSS uses unified RAM.
I forgot about Switch. That must be their main since they also release games for it.
Sony is also releasing Lego Horizon adventures on the Switch but claiming that the switch is now their main platform of development would be absurd. Same thing goes for MS and the XBS consoles
My point is that Xbox is multiplatform now so they don't have a main platform.
Sony is now technically multiplatform too, apart from being on Xbox. Yet the PS5 is absolutely their main priority for development. the same goes for MS and XBSS!
Sony isn't day one MP, whereas Xbox wants to be everwhere. That's the difference.
Not day one? Helldivers 2 was on PC day and date. Lego Horizon adventures will be on Switch day day and date. Having games day one on other platforms has nothing to do with it. It doesn't mean that you just automatically de-prioritise your own platform because you have games day one on other platforms
Yes Sony is starting to have selective day 1's but every single Xbox game is MP now.
and because they're MP day one on other platforms it means the switch is their main platform of development? Does Starfield, Perfect Dark, Avowed and Fable look like they could run on a Switch?
No, like I said they don't have a main. They're basically a third party publisher now.
Well, the only way to solve this is to ask all the Xbox studios developers which platform they were developing for as the main platform. I thought it was clear as day it was the XBSS first but oh well. We're not going to get access to that information so we're at a standstill
I agree Series S is their biggest bottleneck, I just don't see it as their main platform.
It's even more impressive if you take in count COVID basically spoiled the generation with a bad global economy after the lockdown, making harder for studios to move on from the ps4 and every major project being delayed one year or more.
Even if at the end of the day ps5 falls short from outselling the ps4 given the times this generation is happening I wouldn't consider it a failure.
(Sony already said the ps5 is making more money than any ps generation but let's pretend we don't know that and focus only on hardware lol).
Agreed. I'm confident PS5 will outsell PS4 since this gen should be a year or two longer than the last one
