The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

Random Question: Do we have any graphs comparing LTD of XB360 & PS3? I’ve been searching everywhere, but it looks like VGChartz didn’t start creating these kinds graphs until the XBOne/PS4 generation (so the graph I’m looking for may have missed out).

Edit: CK’s source was exactly what I was looking for! Siebensus4’s source provided extra details for the charts. Thanks all!

You can use the hardware comparison tool for weekly comparison. Though, it doesn't show how the gap has changed.

Spoiler, they won't. PS5 will have some spikes with the Monster Hunter launch. The PS4 is simply to expensive to pull in the non enthousiast gamers and considering PlayStation management is all about profit growth I doubt we will see pricecurs coming back.
